Nov. 22–Jan. 4, 2015.

By - Nov 13th, 2014 01:31 pm

Milwaukee, WI (Nov. 13, 2014) – Mele Kalikimaka means “Merry Christmas” in Hawaiian and is the theme of this year’s holiday floral show at the Mitchell Park Domes, Nov. 22–Jan. 4, 2015. The Domes, “Milwaukee’s Living Landmark,” is located at 524 S. Layton Blvd.

The centerpiece of the show, a Norfolk Pine nearly 30 feet tall, will be decorated in hues of sea-foam blue, green, and golden sand—reminiscent of the Pacific shores. The tree will be set in a Tiki Garden filled with thousands of tropical flowers including vibrant poinsettias, hibiscus, anthurium, and orchids. The setting is complemented with a coconut palm, pineapple plants, other island ornamentals, and tiki statues. On the overlook, a larger-than-life travel postcard will welcome guests.

During the show, visitors will experience a variety of holiday music. In addition to Mele Kalikimaka, the playful Christmas carol made famous in 1950 by Bing Crosby and the Andrews sisters, local school and community groups will perform choral and instrumental music. A schedule will be posted on the website, countyparks.com.

For three Saturdays, Santa will be at The Domes. Visitors are invited to bring their cameras to capture a holiday moment, with a floral backdrop of tropical flowers. Hours are: Dec. 6 from, 1:30-3:30 p.m.; Dec. 13 from 11 a.m.–3 p.m.; and Dec. 20 from 10 a.m.–3 p.m., with Mrs. Claus joining Santa from noon-3 p.m.

Holiday show hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays, Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 27), and Christmas Day (Dec. 25), hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

I usually visit the Domes on Mondays, when Milwaukee County residents with ID can get in free until noon. Can’t wait to see the Hawaiian show!
