Boo at the Zoo, Pow Wow at the Baird Center
Plus: Motoberfest and Paracon
I don’t know about you, but these postseason Milwaukee Brewers games are really making us feel proud to be Milwaukeeans. And while we hope they keep up their winning pace, there are also plenty of events around the city this weekend that will make you feel proud to be a Milwaukeean.
Boo at the Zoo will allow families to trick-or-treat at the homes of their favorite animals, and Gallery Night MKE will invite guests to discover and experience art all throughout the city. Watch as Native American singers, dancers and drummers compete at the Hunting Moon Powwow, and enjoy polka and plenty of beer at MobCraft Beer’s Mobtoberfest.
October 15-25: “The Addams Family”
Catch everyone’s favorite spooky family on stage for Bombshell Theatre’s production of “The Addams Family.” The musical tells the story of how Wednesday Addams, daughter of Gomez and Morticia, has fallen in love with a normal boy at school. When she admits this to her father, he attempts to keep it a secret from his wife. Tensions rise when the family decides to host a dinner for the new boyfriend and his parents. For showtimes and to purchase tickets, visit the Bombshell Theatre website.
October 16-17, 23-24: Boo at the Zoo
The Milwaukee County Zoo is giving families a chance to trick-or-treat at the homes of monkeys, tortoises, bears and more as part of Boo at the Zoo. New to this year, Boo at the Zoo is offering a daytime experience on Saturdays. Show up in costume and traverse the zoo’s trick-or-treat trail and enjoy live music, pumpkin animal enrichment, light shows and more. Boo at the Zoo will run from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays and 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit the Milwaukee County Zoo’s website.
October 16-17: Gallery Night MKE
Milwaukee’s original gallery hop night returns for a fall edition, giving guests the chance to discover new galleries and purchase art from local creatives. Participating businesses throughout the Historic Third Ward, East Town, Walker’s Point and Downtown areas will host free-to-attend gallery shows and art sales. For an interactive list of participating businesses, visit the Gallery Night MKE website.
October 16-18: Hunting Moon Pow Wow
The Baird Center will be filled with singing, drumming and dancing as part of Hunting Moon Pow Wow, a three-day celebration of Native American culture. Watch as the best Native American singers, dancers and drummers from all over the country compete for cash prizes, and immerse yourself in the magic of the powwow experience. Guests can also shop a variety of vendors. Hunting Moon Pow Wow is free to attend.
October 17: Mobtoberfest
MobCraft Beer’s spin on Oktoberfest, dubbed Mobtoberfest, will bring lederhosen, live polka music and plenty of beer to the brewpub. The festival will feature fun competitions like beer chugging, stein holding and sausage sculpting, and guests can enjoy bratwursts and soft pretzels as well as MobCraft’s full food menu. Mobtoberfest is free to attend and will run from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
October 18-19: Milwaukee Paracon
Milwaukee is no stranger to ghost stories, so it makes sense that Milwaukee Paracon would make a return. Head over to Kochanski’s to learn about Wisconsin’s wildest and creepiest ghost stories, UFO sightings, cryptids and more. Researchers, artists and authors will be on site talking about their work, and guests can shop a variety of paranormal-themed vendors. On Sunday, be sure to swing by the Witches Faire, which will feature workshops, tarot readings, vendors and more. Milwaukee Paracon is free to attend and will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, visit the Milwaukee Paracon website.
