By - Oct 6th, 2026 12:29 pm

MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women’s soccer team (4-1-6, 0-0-2 BIG EAST) returns home to Valley Fields to take on Creighton (4-4-3, 0-1-2 BIG EAST) on Wednesday. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT and the match will stream on ESPN+.

Last Time Out
Marquette battled to a 0-0 draw at Georgetown on Sept. 30 at Shaw Field, earning a point on the road while moving to 4-1-6 overall and 0-0-2 in BIG EAST play. The Golden Eagles and Hoyas played to a scoreless draw through the opening 45 minutes, with Georgetown holding an 8-1 advantage in shots.

Mia Hurd made four saves, including three in the second half, as Georgetown generated 16 shots after halftime. The Hoyas finished with a 24-1 advantage in shots and 11 corner kicks, but Marquette’s defense held firm to secure its fifth shutout of the season. The result ended the Golden Eagles’ 11-match losing streak against Georgetown and marked their first result against the Hoyas since a 2-2 draw in 2015.

Hurd Named Freshman of the Week
On  Monday, Oct. 5, the BIG EAST announced Mia Hurd as its Freshman of the Week, marking her sixth weekly conference honor in the first seven weeks of her collegiate career.

Hurd earned the honor after recording four saves to help Marquette earn a 0-0 draw at Georgetown on Sept. 30. The true freshman made three saves in the second half as the Hoyas generated 16 shots after halftime, helping the Golden Eagles secure their fifth shutout of the season.

Hurd has now earned BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week honors three times, along with two Weekly Honor Roll selections and one Freshman of the Week award. She has received a weekly conference honor in six of the first seven weeks of her collegiate career.

Murray Returns From PWNT
Marquette junior forward Megan Murray returned to the Golden Eagles following a stint with the Philippine Women’s National Team (PWNT) at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. Murray missed four matches for Marquette against Baylor, Loyola, Eastern Illinois and Butler while representing the Philippines.

Murray made an immediate impact on the international stage, recording her first career international point with an assist in the Philippines’ 2-0 victory over Hong Kong on Sept. 17. She entered as a substitute in the 57th minute and assisted on Mallie Ramirez’s goal six minutes later. Murray also earned her first international start in the Philippines’ final of the Asian Games against Japan.

Hurd Among Nation’s Best
Freshman goalkeeper Mia Hurd has been one of the biggest stories of Marquette’s season, and the numbers back it up. Nationally, she’s tied for 11th in save percentage at .878 and sits tied for 17th in goals-against average at 0.476.

Hurd’s production looks even more impressive when measured against her freshman peers. She ranks first among all freshman goalkeepers nationally in save percentage and is tied for first in goals-against average, putting her at the top of her class in both of the position’s premier statistical categories.

She’s also tied for fifth among freshmen nationally with five shutouts, further evidence that her strong play between the posts has been no fluke.

Defense Not Allowing Multiple Goals
Through 11 matches, Marquette has either recorded a shutout or allowed just one goal in every contest, matching the longest such streak in program history. The 11-match run ties the 2008 Golden Eagles, who also went 11 consecutive matches without allowing multiple goals before conceding twice in a 4-2 victory at DePaul.

Series with Bluejays Dates to ’93
Marquette and Creighton have squared off on the pitch since 1993, with the series knotted at 7-7-4 overall. The Golden Eagles hold a 4-4-1 mark at home against the Bluejays and are 3-3-3 on the road. The two sides last met Sept. 27, 2025, playing to a 1-1 draw in Omaha, Nebraska, extending the current streak to even at zero.

Over the last 10 meetings, dating to Oct. 22, 2017, Creighton holds a slight 4-3-3 edge. The series opened with a 2-2 double-overtime tie on Sept. 18, 1993, and its most lopsided result came Sept. 25, 2014, when Marquette rolled to a 7-2 win.
