David Crowley Will Make Mental Health Care Easier to Find in Every County, Tom Tiffany Voted to Make It Harder to Afford and Access
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – For too many Wisconsinites, mental health care is hard to access and even harder to afford, and MAGA Congressman Tom Tiffany voted to make it more expensive and harder to get. As governor, David Crowley will put a mental health navigator in all 72 counties: a local expert who helps you find the right care, whether that’s a therapist, a support group, or a crisis team, before a hard moment becomes a crisis.
“My parents struggled with addiction and mental health issues, so I understand how difficult it is to access reliable and affordable mental health resources when you or a loved one needs it most,” said Crowley. “Whether you’re looking for a counselor, a crisis team, or a way to help someone you love, you shouldn’t have to figure it out alone. As governor, I’ll make sure every county in Wisconsin has a navigator ready to help.”
Crowley’s healthcare plan will invest in behavioral-health clinics, crisis services, mobile crisis teams, and mental-health navigators so people can get help before they reach a crisis. As governor, he will make BadgerCare comprehensive, covering medical, dental, and vision, with a focus on preventive, primary, and mental healthcare.
Tiffany is taking Wisconsin in the opposite direction. He voted against extending the Affordable Care Act tax credits that kept coverage affordable for thousands of Wisconsin families, and he voted for Trump’s Big Ugly Bill, which cuts nearly $1 trillion from Medicaid, the single largest source of funding for mental health care in the country, to pay for tax breaks for billionaires.
As County Executive, Crowley opened the Milwaukee Health Emergency Center, an emergency room designed for individuals experiencing a mental crisis, which brings life-saving care right to the doorstep. In the State Assembly, Crowley also supported funding for mental health programs in public schools, including a bill that would nearly double grant funding for schools to partner with local mental health agencies.
