After Tiffany Voted to Gut the Affordable Care Act, Leaving Over 45,000 Wisconsinites Without Coverage, David Crowley Will Open BadgerCare as a Public
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – More than 45,000 Wisconsinites have lost their marketplace coverage this year after MAGA Congressman Tom Tiffany voted to let the Affordable Care Act tax credits expire. Unlike Congressman Tiffany, who has admitted he doesn’t have a plan to replace the Affordable Care Act, David Crowley will expand healthcare coverage by opening up BadgerCare as a public option to every Wisconsin household.
“As governor, I’ll open BadgerCare to all Wisconsinites, which will create more competition and lower the cost of coverage. MAGA Congressman Tom Tiffany showed us he isn’t interested in protecting Wisconsinites’ healthcare, that’s unacceptable,” said Crowley. “All Wisconsin families should have access to affordable healthcare, no ifs, ands, or buts. With a public option, Wisconsinites who are paying too much, were kicked off their plan, or have never been able to afford it will have the opportunity to access more affordable coverage.”
Crowley’s Badger Basics plan would open BadgerCare as a public option for every Wisconsin household, so families who make too much to qualify today can still buy affordable coverage. Tiffany has been blocking that coverage for years. In the State Senate, he voted to strip BadgerCare expansion from the state budget, turning down $93 million in healthcare investment for his own district.
In Congress, even when 17 Republicans broke ranks to extend the ACA tax credits, Tiffany voted no. Tiffany had every chance to stop it, but instead, during the shutdown fight over healthcare costs, he urged Republicans to “hold firm.”
