Brewers Prospect Blake Burke Named Southern League Most Valuable Player
Made Named Top Major League Prospect in Southern League
MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee Brewers Minor League first baseman Blake Burke today was named Southern League Most Valuable Player by Minor League Baseball. The award was voted on by league managers.
Burke, 23, was also named a Southern League All-Star at first base after batting .285/.367/.603 (107-for-375) with 25 doubles, 2 triples, 30 HR, 88 RBI, 68 runs and 28 stolen bases in 96 games for Double-A Biloxi before being promoted to Triple-A Nashville on August 11.
Burke is the third player in Shuckers history to earn Southern League MVP, joining outfielder Corey Ray in 2018 and catcher Jakson Reetz in 2022. He is also the fifth Brewers prospect to win the award, also joining Corey Hart (2003) and Hunter Morris (2012) with Double-A Huntsville.
Selected by the Brewers in Competitive Balance Round A (34th overall) of the 2024 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Tennessee, Burke led the Southern League in batting average, slugging percentage and OPS (.970) and tied for the league lead in HR. He also ranked among league leaders in extra-base hits (2nd, 57), total bases (3rd, 226), RBI (T3rd), doubles (8th) and OBP (9th).
The Shuckers, who are currently playing in the Southern League Championship Series, also had shortstop Jesús Made, third baseman Andrew Fischer and outfielder Josh Adamczewski named Southern League All-Stars.
Made was also recognized as the Southern League’s top Major League prospect.
