Thank you for the great article and awesome photos of the Urban Candlelight Hike! Your photos turned out great. MVP, UEC, and FOHAST were so excited to invite people down to the Valley. People might have heard that a lot has happened down here, but this was a lovely invitation to explore. The community feedback was really positive and is proof that northerners are a hardy group! It was fun to see the children playing, people testing out fat tire bikes, and just enjoying nature. So many had never been down here before and were excited to see this beautiful spot in the heart of the city.
Thanks for the article, Jack. However, you might have mentioned that the Urban Ecology Center sponsored and organized the event.
It took a number of partners (and super hardy northerners who embraced nature in all its glory!) to pull of this amazing community event – and we’re thankful for all of them! The Hike was co-hosted by the Urban Ecology Center, Friends of Hank Aaron State Trail, and Menomonee Valley Partners. REI brought the gourmet s’mores and Wheel & Sprocket brought fat tire bikes for all to test out in the snow. Five great food trucks brought an array of delicious food options! Third Space Brewing hosted the after party and gave all Fun Pass holders a free beer. And, of course, it would not have been possible without sponsors: Komatsu Mining Corp, Palermo’s Pizza, Shorewest Northshore, Third Space Brewing, and NEWaukee.
