Time to sparkle

By - Dec 24th, 2011 04:00 am

The holidays are upon us! It’s hard to believe another fantastic fashion year has gone by. With things winding down, hopefully you’re enjoying your favorite holiday activities like cozying up by a warm fire, watching cheesy made-for-TV movies or waiting for your festivities to start.

I’ve always been a fan of dressing to a theme, and the holidays are a perfect excuse to get all dolled up for a night with family, friends and fun!

Here are the things you’ll need:

Sparkle. Nothing says the holidays like sparkle, and luckily, it’s everywhere you turn. If you’re feeling brave, opt for some sequined leggings, but for a more subdued look, try a sparkly scarf to jazz up your top, or glitter tights under an LBD (little black dress). This look is perfect for your family get-togethers and will last you well into the new year.

Get yourself some red lips. The redder the better. They’re bold and bright and a great way to showcase your personality. The key to rocking the bright red is to do it with confidence. So go ahead, be the one that stands out at the party!

Put a little bling in your hair. I wouldn’t recommend this if you’re also wearing sparkles (you don’t want too much shimmer). There’s nothing more surprising than seeing a woman turn her head to display an adorable feather or sparkly broach tucked away amongst her locks.

Carry around a festive clutch. Holiday parties are a good time to switch out your usual bag and bring in something smaller and more fashionable. My favorite seasonal clutch is a bright red one that I pair with a simple black dress.

Put on some height. Nothing tops off an outfit like a good pair of heels. When the snow is on the ground, flats become the less practical option. A plain pair of black pumps will take you far, and they will never go out of style.
