Gypsies and Jam Band Funk

Global Union Day 1

By - Sep 23rd, 2010 04:00 am

In it’s fifth year, Global Union once again brings eclectic sounds from all over the world right here to our own backyard. The annual two-day (and free!) world music festival kicks off this Saturday, with “Wild Gypsy brass from the Romanian suburbs,” Ethiopian Jam Band Funk and  steel string bachata from the Dominican Republic.

TCD will be hanging out in the media tent, hosting a few fun games and giving away fun prizes, including t-shirts, buttons and concert tickets. Our multimedia team — Photo Editor Brian Jacobson and intern Matthew Dwyer — are bringing back the popular TCD Photo Booth (as seen at Made in Milwaukee and Mondo Lucha) on Saturday only, asking willing participants to show us their best rock n’ roll faces against the rollicking backdrop of Humboldt Park.

Here’s a quick peek at Saturday’s lineup. We’ll see you there!

Mahala Rai Banda (1 p.m.)

Joan Soriano (2:30 p.m.)

The Debo Band feat. Fendika (4 p.m.)
