Hey Derby fans! It’s been a great summer for this reporter, and I hope yours has been smooth sailing as well. I’ve been cold kicking it in the hot sun, working on my tan and sipping Krumosas. The Krumosa (patent pending!) is my own invention, and the recipe is here.

Our hometown heroes the Brewcity Bruisers keep the summer fun rolling along this week. First up is a BCB Appreciation Event this Wednesday, August 26 at Washington Park from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. There will be an appreciation ceremony for sponsors, and volunteers and community groups will present activities and entertainment.

The Bruisers will have free roller skating for the kiddies until 6 p.m. and a free community cookout (while supplies last), as well as fishing, canoeing and art projects. Music will be provided by The Addy Janes, The Barrettes and The Lillies (three hot-to-trot all-female local bands). An after party will take place at McBobs Pub and Grill following the event. It’ll be a grand old time with music guaranteed to knock your socks off, so come out and support your favorite roller girls.

On Saturday, August 29, the Bruisers travel team will take on the Grand Raggidy Rollergirls of Grand Rapids, Michigan. It’s a home game at the Milwaukee County Sports Complex. The Battlestars (The Bruiser’s B team) will also take on the Rockford Rage at the bout. This will be the last home bout for the travel season, so be sure to get out there and show the Bruise crew some support!

More info at brewcitybruisers.com, and of course be sure to check back with Derby Little Secrets as we gear up for the home season. We’ll get back in the game, guns blazing, with bout recaps, interviews, team updates and (with a little luck) the Derby Little Secrets vodcast, so stay tuned.
