MTEA President Ingrid Walker-Henry Statement on Sentencing of Michael Bonds
MILWAUKEE – Yesterday, former MPS School Board President Michael Bonds was sentenced to two years in prison for accepting bribes in exchange for favorable treatment of a network of private charter schools while he was on the Board.
MTEA President Ingrid Walker-Henry issued the following statement:
“Aisha Carr, another former School Board member with close ties to privatizers like Colleston Morgan at City Forward Collective and Dale Kooyenga at the MMAC, faces her own charges of misconduct in office and theft of taxpayer dollars. Carr’s allies at City Forward and MMAC, who ran a $600,000 campaign this spring to try to force $250 million in cuts to MPS students, continually support school board candidates with questionable morals who seem more committed to personal enrichment than the entitlement of our students and schools.
“Elected leaders must protect taxpayers and public school families from corrupt actors by ending the privatization scam once and for all.”
