SUMMARY:Thriftones
DESCRIPTION:THRIFTONES \nSat Jan 2 2016 8:00 pm @ 224 W. Bruce Street Milwaukee FREE SHOW! \nJoin us as we welcome 2016 with a FREE SHOW featuring Anodyne’s unofficial house band- THRIFTONES !!\n“Thriftones are a rare species of band. Their itinerant sound cannot be confined and their wanderings endless. You may find them playing to a colony of squirrels in the north woods of Wisconsin or maybe even a bar in Milwaukee. Whether it be a bluesy take of sensual master Latimore or one of their self-described “folkadelic” jams\, the Thriftones are one of the state’s greatest purveyors of what some may call a good ol’ time. It don’t matter if you’re a teetotaler\, Thriftones will intoxicate your mind\, while their Americana rhythms contort your bones into strange symbols of approval. Matthew Davies\, the bands multi-talented vocalist\, is a man of insights and stories that trace back further than your grandfather’s facial stubble. His tales are akin to those of rustic ramblers who’ve seen\, up close\, far too many sawdust covered bar floors and way too many of America’s dirty crevices. Simply put the Thriftones are Milwaukee’s gateway to the drug they call America.” by Michael Dupar 88.9 Radio Milwaukee \nThe Thriftones consist of: Matthew Davies – Vocals/Guitar/Keys/Harmonica\, Andrew Koenig – Guitar/Vocals\, Thomas Jones – Drums and Eston Bennet – Bass – \nSee more at: http://www.radiomilwaukee.org/414-music-music/thriftonesmilwaukees-own#sthash.y5z1seyd.dpuf\nhttps://www.facebook.com/thriftones/

SUMMARY:Birds of Chicago
DESCRIPTION:BIRDS OF CHICAGO \nSat Jan 9 2016 8:00 pm @ 224 W. Bruce Street Milwaukee $15 \nStark\, elemental imagery that feels like scripture\, or a lost folk song recovered; the Birds draw heavily on the gospel tradition and the music feels like a new\, secular gospel of sorts. For Birds of Chicago\, every word counts. Every note counts. No gold-dusting\, no filler. Music is the good news and Real Midnight\, the band’s poignant new Joe Henry produced album\, throbs with an urgency that feels quietly seismic.\nBirds of Chicago was born in 2012 when Nero began writing for his vocal star-muse\, Russell. Both were accomplished singer/songwriters with projects of their own\, Nero with JT and the Clouds and Russell with the acclaimed Canadian roots outfit Po’ Girl\, but together there was an unmistakable chemistry. Nero had found the perfect voice for his rock and roll psalms. Russell moved from being a primary songwriter to an interpreter\, and her simmering restraint is deeply refreshing to a landscape scorched by post Voice/American Idol vocal gymnastics and over-emoting. \nOn Real Midnight\, Birds of Chicago alternate moody rock swagger with the ghostliest of soundscapes. Produced by Joe Henry\, a man who’s expert blending of light and shadow is well known\, the album is a melancholy – but never shoe gazing – suite\, full of wayward\, joyful\, lonesome voices raised up against the night. \nMusic this raw and soul-rich demands to be experienced live\, and Birds of Chicago have developed a fervent following\, touring 200 nights a year since their formation in late 2012. For these Birds\, singing for a room full of new people\, hearts wide open\, keeps off the cold and chases off the shadows. 2016 will find the band in constant motion – from sea to sea and beyond. \nhttp://www.birdsofchicago.com/ \nAdvance tickets available here–\nhttps://anodynecoffee.com/shop/product-category/events/

SUMMARY:CoPA Kicks Off the New Year
DESCRIPTION:FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE\nToday | Milwaukee\, WI\nVisit www.copamilwaukee.com for organization details and other events.\nCOALITION OF PHOTOGRAPHIC ARTS KICKS OFF NEW YEAR\nAWARD-WINNING AD EXEC DAVE HANNEKEN FEATURED JANUARY 12TH\nReal-life Mad Man to speak to photographic arts group. \nCoPA\, the Coalition of Photographic Arts (Milwaukee) is delighted to present advertising executive Dave Hanneken as the featured speaker on January 12th. Hanneken\, whose work has won every international\, national\, regional and local award for advertising excellence\, has often used photography to sell a product or point of view\, and he is poised to share a treasure trove of knowledge and experience with the photographic arts community.\nAt the first CoPA member meeting of the year\, to be held at Louise’s Trattoria at 801 North Jefferson Street in Milwaukee\, Hanneken will discuss the craft of photography as a preeminent force of storytelling\, and the difference between a good photograph and a really great one. Hanneken “was blessed to work with some of the finest photographers in the world\,” whom he credits for helping to win such accolades as One Show pencils\, Clio statues\, Cannes Lions and Effie Golds. \nFor 25 years Hanneken has worked with photographers to tell visual stories that incite emotion\, influence attitudes\, and often times make people laugh. He credits a youthful steady diet of Mad Magazine with his mindset. “Every ad I’ve written can be folded in half to form a witty and subversive message\,” Hanneken says half-jokingly.\nThe event on January 12th promises to be both eye opening and vastly entertaining. In addition to his countless advertising awards\, Hanneken won the Diederich College of Communication’s “Adjunct Teacher of the Year Award” his very first year in the classroom as an adjunct professor at Marquette University.\nCoPA serves a membership of professional full-time photographers\, fine art photographers\, hobbyists and “pro amateurs” with monthly meetings\, speaker series\, workshops\, portfolio reviews\, juried exhibitions\, gallery shows and public exhibitions.\nThe event is a suggested $2 donation for CoPA members\, and a $7.50 charge for non-members. Louise’s\, 801 North Jefferson Street\, Milwaukee\, WI 53202 (414) 273-4224\nFor more information please visit www.copamilwaukee.com\nFood and drinks are available from Louise’s at an additional charge.\n-ENDS-\nCONTACT: Pam Ferderbar\, Exhibitions and Events\, CoPA\npam@pamferderbar.com (213) 364-5449 1905 Hillside Drive\, Delafield\, WI 53018
