SUMMARY:'Where Does Russia End? Russian Imperialism & Anti-Ukrainianism From Past to Present'
DESCRIPTION:Marc Chagall’s art and biography reflect the multi-ethnicity and transnational cultural life of his birthplace\, the Russian Empire. Yet Russia’s political leaders have violently rejected Chagall’s art as alien and embraced it as quintessentially Russian at different historical moments. \nMykola Hohol/Nikolai Gogol’s identity is equally contested\, given his important place in both Ukrainian and Russian literature. Join Christine Evans\, Associate Professor of History at the UW-Milwaukee\, to explore both the long history of the Russian state’s efforts to conquer its Western neighbors and decide who and where is Russian\, and the imperialist narratives that have accompanied and sought to justify that effort. \nAdmission is $5 for Jewish Museum Milwaukee members and $10 for nonmembers.

The Festival will return to its original flagship location\, Downtown Menomonee Falls (Main Street from Grand to Water St.) and Mill Pond Park on August 24\, 2024\, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This year the Festival will showcase a diverse range of local\, regional\, and state-wide artists\, along with art demonstrations\, a kids art zone\, live music\, food trucks\, a beer & wine garden\, performing artists\, street performers\, vendors and a community art project. \nThe Festival\, which originated as an art walk\, has grown each year thanks to the support of local businesses\, organizations\, and dedicated volunteers like Stacie Estrada\, owner of Art Lounge and current Co-Director of the Festival. Estrada began the art walk in 2021 when her family moved their business to Menomonee Falls from Sussex. At that time her “ intention was to transform Menomonee Falls Downtown into a place where artists and musicians can display and sell their talent while making the arts accessible to everyone”. \nToday\, this free family-friendly event provides multiple opportunities for Menomonee Falls and the surrounding communities to engage in and be inspired by the arts by making the arts accessible to all through visual and performance art experiences. \nIn addition\, The Art Guild of Menomonee Falls has teamed up with the Festival organizers to include their annual Art in the Park and Scholarship Auction. “A one day art party celebrating everything ART by embracing all art related businesses\, organizations and clubs in our area is a dream that I have had since I started Art in the Park back in 2008” stated Terra Chmielewski\, Founding President of the Art Guild of Menomonee Falls and current Co-Director of The Falls Festival of the Arts. The current President of the Art Guild\, Don Eisenhauer\, stated\, “ I am thrilled to see our involvement with the Festival. With these two passionate leaders\, Stacie and Terra at the helm of this ship\, the Guild and the Arts in Menomonee Falls can only grow” \nThe Art Guild of Menomonee Falls\, Falls Art@Large\, The Village of Menomonee Falls\, Menomonee Falls Downtown Inc. and Menomonee Falls Business Improvement District have all been instrumental in collaborating together for the success of the Falls Festival of the Arts. \nPlanned events leading up to the Festival include a Plein Air Painting Competition\, Sculpture Painting Competition and a Murals & Mixers Trolley Tour. \nDon’t miss the opportunity to be part of this artistic celebration and experience the creativity of the local arts community in Menomonee Falls and the surrounding area. \nFor more information\, visit their website www.fallsfestivalofthearts.com or contact their Co-Director Terra Chmielewski at terraffoa@gmail.com

SUMMARY:The Colors of Chagall: A Family Art Day
DESCRIPTION:Modernist painter Marc Chagall used color in a dramatic manner that did not imitate nature but instead expressed movement\, rhythm\, passion\, love\, and sometimes\, pain. “Color\,” he once said\, “is two things. It is chemistry and it is love.” Join us in celebration of Chagall’s love of color with a family-friendly day featuring all-ages art activities! \n– Our make-and-take printmaking demonstrations feature the artists and artwork of AP3\, a Milwaukee non-profit community access print shop. Take home a detailed and textured print of your choice and learn more about the technique used to create the Dead Souls prints.\n– Show your colors and chalk our walk! We will provide simple sketches inspired by the art of Chagall that can be used as templates for chalkings or show off your own artistic flair. A variety of different chalks will be available.\n– Hunt for the hidden treasures in Chagall’s Dead Souls: A Satirical Account of Imperialist Russia and JMM’s permanent exhibit. This scavenger hunt will help you to navigate the Museum with your family.\n– Relax within the lines and decide the colors you think would work best on a Chagall painting. Individual coloring book pages\, crayons\, markers\, and colored pencils will be available to mix and match. \nAdmission is $6 for individuals or $20 for families up to 5 members.
