SUMMARY:Marie and Rosetta
DESCRIPTION:Before Little Richard\, Johnny Cash\, and Jimi Hendrix\, Sister Rosetta Tharpe’s groundbreaking blend of gospel music\, swing rhythms and fierce electric guitar made her an unconventional music superstar in the 1930s and 40s. Acclaimed writer George Brant (“Grounded”) unearths the unsung roots of the fearless “Godmother of Rock ’n’ Roll” and her wide-eyed protégée Marie Knight\, as they begin their revolutionary ascent to become one of the most influential teams in music history. Starring Rep favorites Alexis J Roston (“Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill\,” “Nina Simone: Four Women”) and Bethany Thomas (“Ragtime\,” “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”) and featuring a rich mix of songs from the early days of rock ’n roll\, this magnetic play with music is a sure-fire can’t-miss show. \nBy George Brant\nDirected by E. SUMMARY:Caley Conway ALBUM RELEASE with Cathedral Becomes Tomb + The Hatchets
DESCRIPTION:Join Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co. for an evening of live music celebrating the release of Caley Conway’s new album! \nCaley Conway \nThere are moments in Caley Conway’s latest album\, Partner\, when the ever-busy Milwaukee singer-songwriter finds herself caught in the humdrum duties of daily life. There are things to do—or not—people to see—or not—and the ones and zeros of technology to attend to. And then\, suddenly\, she’s off and dreaming\, belly laughing with a distant friend or considering taking up “the work of birds.” When she comes back down to Earth\, more often than not\, she finds bliss in a comforting middle ground. “There aren’t enough hours in the day\, I’ve counted\,” Conway sings early in the record\, before slyly adding\, “For loving you.” \nCathedral Becomes Tomb \nCathedral Becomes Tomb is a sound expression from Wisconsin based artist Barry Paul Clark (adoptahighway\, Tontine Ensemble\, Field Report) \nThe expression includes double bass in combination with effected audio signals. It draws inspiration from his lived experiences in conjunction with mental health therapy. The catalyst is an attempt to sonically manifest living with anxiety and major depressive disorders. Live performances are multimedia improvisations that utilize a mixture of projection imagery\, film pieces and Barry’s own recorded footage\, with a visual signal affected by the sounds being produced in the performance. \nGenre can be implemented as a tool of organization and for the comfort of an unknown\, so for genre category purposes\, Cathedral Becomes Tomb shares sonic spaces connected to drone\, improvisation\, glacial maximalism\, deep listening\, and experimental electronic\, with techniques derivative of contemporary chamber/classical music. \nThe Hatchets \nThe Hatchets are a rock band from Milwaukee\, WI. They’ve released two full-length LPs: The Uncounted Blue Jillions (2019) and Every New Beginning Comes from Some Other Beginning’s End. \nTickets are $15 in advance or $17 day of show.

SUMMARY:Community Free Day for Against the Grain Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Jewish Museum Milwaukee is thrilled to host this community day for anyone living in Milwaukee County to visit Against the Grain: The Remarkable Life of Artist Bernard Perlin for FREE! \nBernard Perlin was a minority\, outsider\, gay man\, and pursuer of truth\, beauty\, and justice. Born to Russian Jewish immigrants in 1918\, artist-activist Perlin was a talented painter\, illustrator\, war artist-correspondent\, and photographer\, who tackled stylistic genres\, the horrors of WWII\, issues of social justice\, and homosexuality with conviction and bravery. \nThis exhibit celebrates and brings deserved visibility to an artist who lived passionately and unapologetically against the grain. It explores the benefits and challenges of multi-faceted identities\, immigration\, and assimilation. Additionally\, it delves into historical experiences of persecution and discrimination against minority groups that reflect similar attitudes that are still prevalent today.

SUMMARY:Paul Cebar Tomorrow Sound + Rami Gabriel
DESCRIPTION:Join Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co. for an evening of live music featuring Paul Cebar Tomorrow Sound and Rami Gabriel! \nPaul Cebar Tomorrow Sound \nPaul Cebar Tomorrow Sound are the latest in Fresh Venerable. Benefitting from years of unassuming and understated hipness\, they bring forth a funky\, lyrically charged racket that sits comfortably with soulful sounds the world over. \nIntricate but free-swinging\, explosive yet intimate\, fresh and green as grass. \nTaking cues from the dance bands of western Louisiana (and his native Midwest\,)\, the streets (and 45’s) of New Orleans\, touring African and Caribbean combos and the soul\, funk & blues of his youth coupled with early \, teeth-cutting experience in the verbal hotbeds of the coffeehouse scene\, Cebar is a masterful synthesist of rhythmic culture \nTomorrow Sound are an elite crew of offhand adepts who bring plenty of their own wood to the fire. Drummer Reggie Bordeaux\, casts his nets with a mystifying subtlety bringing his own fleet-footed refinement and grease. Multi-instrumentalist Bob Jennings\, lends his bandleader the luxury of implying a much larger ensemble with his multi-hued contributions on keys and reeds. Bassist Mike Fredrickson (a distinguished singer-songwriter in his own right) anchors and prods with the best of them. \nRami Gabriel \nBorn in Beirut\, Lebanon\, Rami Gabriel has been a motive force in rock n’ roll\, jazz\, Arabic\, and experimental music communities across North America for over twenty years. In that time\, he has released numerous projects across genres and under many names\, notably with Rami & The Reliables and The Arab Blues. On his debut LP for Sooper Records\, Rami trips all the breakers. In his own name and voice for the first time\, That’s what I been sayin’ is not so much a debut as a conflagration in Rami Gabriel’s worldly underground. \nTickets are $15 day of show or $18 in advance.

SUMMARY:Gold Steps + When The Sun Sets + Mighty Vices + Lake Drive
DESCRIPTION:Join Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co. for an evening of live music featuring Gold Steps\, When the Sun Sets\, Mighty Vices and Lake Drive! \nGOLD STEPS: \nFew artists would consider leaving “live music capital of the world” Austin for the Midwest. Gold Steps not only chose that path–they’re thriving on it. After signing with indie label Revival Recordings in 2022\, the band set off on a new era of assertiveness\, lacing hook-laden\, brutal honesty with a more polished\, pop-forward sound. \nSharp-tongued anthems “Narcissist” and “Stay The Same” feature vocalist Betty Mauritz directing razor-sharp jabs at toxic targets. Self-empowerment and autonomy are central themes on their latest EP\, That Ain’t It\, as well as the band’s signature self-reflection and vulnerability\, best showcased on synthy apology track “Gatsby.” Mauritz describes\, “I’ve grown to appreciate the intensity of my emotions…how powerful my love\, my fury\, and my pain can be…it’s what makes us uniquely human.” \nWHEN THE SUN SETS: \nWhen The Sun Sets bridges the gap between modern and classic pop punk. With influence from bands like A Day To Remember\, Four Year Strong\, and Real Friends\, the Chicago-based band uses strong and relatable lyrics paired with driving riffs to bring the fun back into the genre. Whether you want a sing along\, emotional bridge\, or breakdown\, When The Sun Sets is the band that has you covered on all bases. \nNow independent\, the band is gearing up to release a full-length album amongst a string of singles. The release will feature artists such as: The Home Team\, 408\, Definitely Maybe\, and lolitslea to showcase some talented friends in the scene and displaying the next step in their songwriting. Their most recent EP “You + Me 4 Never” has yielded over 300\,000 streams on Spotify alone. \nMIGHTY VICES: \nHailing from the heartland\, Mighty Vices are your go-to band for good old-fashioned pop-punk anthems. Drawing inspiration from the genre’s legends\, they deliver a sound that’s equal parts nostalgic and fresh. \nThese guys aren’t just recycling past glories though. They bring their own unique twist\, ensuring their music feels raw\, relevant\, and ready to ignite the mosh pit. \nLAKE DRIVE: \nLake Drive is a 4-piece American Pop-Rock band from Milwaukee\, Wisconsin formed in 2023 by Rayven Burdette (vocals)\, Brandon Detaege (guitar)\, Trevor Gallagher (bass)\, and Adam Secord (drums). They’ve played venues all over the state including The Rave\, X-Ray Arcade\, and Cactus Club. An opening act for artists such as jxdn\,Sueco\, and LØLØ. Their debut EP ‘Post-Internet Romance’ features singles ‘Plus One’\, ‘ur so funny.’ and ‘Overrated’ \nTickets are $12 in advance or $15 day of show.
