SUMMARY:Artists Reception: Out There
DESCRIPTION:Kim Storage Gallery is pleased to present Out There\, a two-person exhibition of new work by Hector Acuna and Andy Paczos. The title borrows the advice a teacher gave Paczos at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago: look out the window\, “there’s lots of good stuff out there.” He took it\, and has painted Chicago from direct observation for three decades since. Acuna works the same way\, returning to his Wisconsin sites across multiple plein air sessions and staging handmade props to paint in natural light. Both find their subjects by standing in front of them.

SUMMARY:Gallery Night Reception at the Grohmann Museum
DESCRIPTION:“Lina Bertucci: Railroad Voices—The Milwaukee Road\, 1974–1977” \nGallery Night Event featuring a Gallery Talk with Lina Bertucci and Cindy Angelos: The first women to work in the Milwaukee Road yards. \nLina Bertucci was hired by the Chicago\, Milwaukee\, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad (The Milwaukee Road) in 1974 as a brakeman (brakewoman). She was only the second woman to work in the Milwaukee Road yards\, following her aunt\, Cindy Angelos. Both Bertucci and Angelos entered training on the same day\, and their arrival immediately sent tremors through the male-dominated field. But through ambition and optimism\, they settled in by demonstrating full competence in their many challenges. While difficult\, the work paid more than most other entry-level jobs and appealed to their adventuresome spirits. \nAs an aspiring artist\, Bertucci arrived armed with her camera in her bag\, at first hoping to simply fit in\, to be respected as more than just the “girl with the camera.” Before long\, she was accepted by most of her colleagues and set about chronicling her experience and daily toil\, and did so for three years\, until The Milwaukee Road filed for bankruptcy protection in 1977. In recalling her work\, she notes that “these photographs were never simply creative memories of a personal experience\, but a record of a social and historical moment—a communal cultural and industrial transformation that intersected with my own identity as I stood witness to its passing.” \nBertucci’s work while on ‘The Road’ resurfaces for this special display of an important part of Milwaukee’s industrial history and a woman’s impact on art and industry. Through her portraits of the railroad and the railroad worker\, we are provided an insider’s view of a world few had access to\, but so many were impacted by.

SUMMARY:5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche
DESCRIPTION:It’s 1956\, and the Susan B. Anthony Society for the Sisters of Gertrude Stein has gathered for its annual quiche breakfast when suddenly the bomb drops. As nuclear apocalypse rages outside\, the Sisters realize they may be the last people left on Earth… which raises some very pressing questions about the future of the human race. 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche – the laugh-out-loud cult hit that stormed Chicago and off-Broadway – is now detonating in Milwaukee. It’s immersive\, too: every guest is sworn into the Society on arrival\, and with roughly 30% improvised\, no two apocalypses are alike. Presented by The Constructivists\, produced by Cap and Glasses Studios\, at Pink’s Accessible Theater House this October. Come for the quiche. Stay for the end of the world. \nPerformances October 1–24\, 2026 — evenings 8:00 p.m.\, Sunday matinees 4:00 p.m. Full schedule and tickets ($20) at 5leqmke.com.

SUMMARY:W.A.S.P.
DESCRIPTION:W.A.S.P. -1984 to Headless \nFew Bands in the history of Rock N’ Roll have ever incited the love\, the hate\, the raw emotional effect this band has had on the world. From the very beginning\, in the small venues of Los Angeles California\, and later to the numerous countries worldwide that banned these Winged Assassins from performing live\, the band’s unique style of Shock and Rock caused Religious organizations\, Local City Councils\, Parliaments\, and the Washington D.C. Senate to hold hearings in an effort to bar this group from selling records and trashing stages everywhere they played. \nThe band’s founding member\, frontman Blackie Lawless\, has led the group as its lead vocalist and primary songwriter since its beginning. His unique brand of visual\, social and political comment took the group to worldwide heights and sold millions of records alongside a legacy of sold out shows across the globe for 4 decades.

SUMMARY:Indigo Girls
DESCRIPTION:16 studio albums\, and over 15 million records sold\, Indigo Girls continue to blaze the trail for generations of Queer artists in the mainstream. The Grammy-winning duo of Emily Saliers and Amy Ray began their career in clubs and bars around their native Atlanta\, GA amidst a blossoming alternative music scene before signing to Epic Records in 1988. Indigo Girls’ eponymous major label debut sold over two million copies under the power of singles “Closer to Fine” and “Kid Fears” and introduced the duo’s signature harmonies and powerful\, sophisticated songs to a dedicated\, enduring global audience. \nIndigo Girls was the first of six consecutive Gold and/or Platinum-certified albums. On their latest record\, the Indigo Girls tell their origin story. 2020’s Look Long\, is stirring and eclectic collection of songs that finds the duo of Amy Ray and Emily Saliers chronicling their personal upbringings with more specificity and focus than they have on any previous song-cycle. These eleven songs have a tender\, revealing motion to them\, as if they’re feeding into a Super 8 film projector\, illuminating a darkened living room. “We’re fallible creatures shaped by the physics of life\,” says Saliers. “We’re shaped by our past; what makes us who we are? And why?” The two songwriters are tackling the mechanisms of perspective. In this moment of delirious upheaval\, Look Long considers the tremendous potential of ordinary life and suggests the possibility that an honest survey of one’s past and present\, unburdened by judgement\, can give shape to something new—the promise of a way forward. With the energy of an expanding\, loyal audience beneath their feet\, a weather eye toward refinement\, and an openness to redefinition\, Indigo Girls exemplify that promise.“We joke about being old\, but what is old when it comes to music? We’re still a bar band at heart\,” says Saliers. “While our lyrics and writing approach may change\, our passion for music feels the same as it did when we were 25 years old.” \nCommitted and uncompromising activists\, Saliers and Ray work on issues like racial justice and reproductive rights (Project Say Something)\, immigration reform (El Refugio)\, LGBTQ advocacy\, education (Imagination Library)\, death penalty reform\, and Native American rights\, (First Peoples Fund). \n“As time has gone on\, our audience has become more expansive and diverse\, giving me a sense of joy\,” remarks Saliers. Recently\, “Closer to Fine” featured prominently in Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster film Barbie and introduced Indigo Girls’ music to a new generation of listeners. Released in 2024\, their critically-acclaimed documentary Indigo Girls: It’s Only Life After All (directed by Alexandria Bombach) blends 40 years of home movies\, raw film archive\, and intimate present-day verité into a heartfelt career retrospective. A New York Times Critic’s Pick\, the documentary premiered opening night at the Sundance Film Festival in 2023 and went on to screen at SXSW\, Tribeca Film Festival\, and Hot Docs before releasing to Netflix. \nWhile Rolling Stone describes them as “ideal duet partners\,” Indigo Girls’ live performances aren’t so much duets as they are community experiences—massive group singalongs together with their audience. To hear those collective singing voices raise into one and overpower even the band itself\, one realizes the importance Indigo Girls’ music has in this moment. In an increasingly-terrifying present\, we are all in search of a daily refuge\, a stolen hour or two\, when we engage with something that brings us joy\, perspective\, or maybe just a sense of peace. As one bar band once put it\, “We go to the doctor\, we go to the mountains…we go to the Bible\, we go through the work out.” For millions\, they go to the Indigo Girls: a creative partnership certain of its bearings\, forging a way forward.
