SUMMARY:The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui
DESCRIPTION:By Bertolt Brecht\, translated and adapted by Bruce Norris\nDirected by Ralph Janes \nExperience what happens when a small-time mobster with ruthless ambition takes control of the gangster underworld in 1930s Chicago. Witness how Arturo Ui’s arrogance and self-importance have a savage effect—matching the rise of Nazism in Germany during the 1920s. This potent and timely satire\, is\, according to Brecht\, not a play about Hitler\, but rather a cautionary tale of “the complacency of the people who were able to resist him\, but didn’t.” \nGeneral $23/ Senior\, UWM Faculty & Staff $18/ Under 18 & University Students $13\n*Sale Tax is added upon purchase* \nNote: ASL interpretation will be offered at Saturday and Sunday performances. \nWarning: This performance includes adult language\, gunfire (recorded\, not live)\, weapons and flashes of light. \nPlease also note that socially distanced seating and masks are required. \nCurtains rise at 2 p.m. matinée on Sunday.

SUMMARY:ART POP 2020!
DESCRIPTION:ART POP 2020! Yes! TAYLOR’S will be hosting the AIDS WALK WISCONSIN’S most intriguing art auction fundraiser again this year to support the “We-R-the-Strongest-Link” walking team. Because of the unusual times we are in\, the format of ART POP will be both in-person and online. The event will kick off as usual from 2:30 – 5 pm on Sunday October 18th at TAYLOR’S with all of the 7″ x 7″ art pieces hanging gallery-style. Artwork will remain hanging for three days with online bidding only. Final bids will be taken at 8 pm on Wednesday October 21st. Support the team by coming to TAYLOR’S on the 18th… There will be the customary entrance fee of $20 which can be applied “same as cash” to your online purchase -and get the free drink of your choice\, too! On-site purchase of blocks can be made at a set price. TAYLOR’S has been approved by the City of Milwaukee Health Department for full occupancy\, provided all social distancing and appropriate mask wearing is observed… we will take every measure to ensure that we provide a safe atmosphere for you to view the artwork (we’re hoping the extended online bidding will allow people to come and go easily without the usual crush of people at the end of the in-person event). More details about the online bidding process and retrieval of artwork to follow… mark your calendar today!

SUMMARY:Open Hearts\, Open Homes Gala
DESCRIPTION:Chosen Inc. (“Chosen”)\, a non-profit ministry dedicated to supporting foster and adoptive parenting\, will again celebrate these unique family-building journeys Nov. 14 at its third annual gala – with a twist necessitated by the corona virus pandemic. \nThe “2020 Open Hearts\, Open Homes Gala” will be a virtual event starting at 7 p.m. As in previous years\, the evening will again be filled with stories of warmth\, encouragement and “Fostering Forever Families” by providing safe\, loving homes for children. \nA highlight will be the announcement of plans to open a Milwaukee County Family Closet in 2021\, modeled after The Family Closet in Waukesha. The center provides free clothing and children’s items to foster and adoptive families. \nDue to the event’s virtual nature\, tickets are free for 2020. Attendees can choose to donate when they register\, with 100 percent of all funds going to the Milwaukee County Family Closet. Attendees can earn free tickets to the 2021 gala by hosting watch parties of at least four guests. \nKeynote speakers are Amalie and Jason Bowling\, co-founders of Chosen\, who will share how their own family journey ties in with the origin of Chosen. Additional presentations will share Chosen’s 2020 accomplishments\, and how it plans to respond to an expected dramatic increase in foster care needs due to COVID-19. \nOnline bidding for silent auction items begins Nov. 9. Several high-profile auction items will be sold “live” at the Nov. 14 event. \nHundreds of guests and volunteers have attended Chosen’s prior two galas\, the first in November 2018. The event is the largest fund-raiser for Chosen’s hands-on programs\, support and outreach to foster and adoptive families\, and educational outreach in the community. \n“While we tremendously value thanking all our supporters in person at the annual gala\, circumstances dictated a change in format this year\,” said Karen Schlindwein\, Vice-President of Education and Development for Chosen. “Nevertheless\, we are excited to tell gala attendees how their support helps us meet the needs of foster and adoptive families.” \nRegistration for the Nov. 14 virtual gala\, and access to early online silent auction shopping\, are available at https://www.choseninlove.org/2020gala.
