SUMMARY:Joe Fernandez At The Laughing Tap!! 10/2
DESCRIPTION:Joe Fernandez is a half-Cuban half-Irish (or Cubish) comedian and actor. Growing up in Texas he had an affinity for the sport of baseball and dreamed of one day playing for the Houston Astros (Sans using cameras to help his career.) When his body didn’t grow up with his dreams\, he moved to the performing arts where muscles aren’t necessary. At Marquette University\, Joe received the Chris Farley Scholarship for his positive use of creativity and humor. After moving to Chicago\, Joe rapidly became one of the most beloved comics in the scene\, peppering his stand-up pursuits with stints on improv teams at world-renowned iO and the Playground Theaters. Over the past 10 years\, Joe has morphed smart and stupid into his own unique brand of silly– but layered–comedy. He’s taken his off-stage persona of intolerable presence and morphed it into his on-stage persona of lovable jerk. He satirizes serious subjects through absurdity and is facetious to a fault. \nJoe has performed at numerous comedy festivals including TBS Just For Laughs\, the Boston Comedy Festival\, the Memphis Comedy Festival\, Chicago Sketchfest\, and was a finalist for the Andy Kaufman Award. Joe is a regular at many Chicago comedy institutions\, including Zanies\, Laugh Factory\, Comedians You Should Know\, and Paper Machete. He’s opened for some of the biggest names in comedy like Dave Attell\, Jon Lovitz\, Natasha Leggero and Harland Williams. Has he also appeared in a Cracker Barrel commercial and an episode of Chicago Med where he improvised yelling at Oliver Platt? Yes he has. If you’re not in the same town Joe is performing in\, you can catch him on his improvised character podcast “30 Characters.” Also keep an eye out for his debut comedy album “Ugly” debuted at #1 on Apple Music!! \nTickets are $20 and only available online. \nShow on Friday!!\nDoors open at 7 p.m./ show at 7:30 p.m.

SUMMARY:Milwaukee Press Club Newsmaker Luncheon
DESCRIPTION:Steven DeVougas\, former chairman and current member of Milwaukee’s Fire and Police Commission\, will be the featured guest at a virtual event set for noon on Thursday\, September 17. This Newsmaker Lunch Hour is presented by a partnership between the Milwaukee Press Club and WisPolitics.com. \nDeVougas\, founder of DeVougas Law Group in Milwaukee\, has faced broad criticism in recent months for his own actions and for the commission’s controversial dealings with former Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales. \nMorales retired last month and is pursuing legal action after the FPC voted unanimously to demote him to the rank of captain\, with some commissioners contending he had failed to work with the FPC and had lied to them and the public. \nDeVougas currently is the subject of an investigation by the City of Milwaukee Ethics Board\,  launched after the Milwaukee Police Association filed a complaint against him. The complaint raised concerns about his being present at a 2019 police interview of a real estate developer accused of sexual assault because DeVougas then was chairman of the FPC\, which has oversight for the Police Department. \nA separate independent investigation conducted by a retired assistant U.S. Attorney and a former FBI agent found that DeVougas lied about his representation of the real estate developer and likely violated city ethics rules. \nDeVougas has denied any wrongdoing and has vowed to remain in his position on the FPC despite calls for him to step down. \nHe will field questions from a panel of journalists from noon to 1 p.m.\, moderated by Milwaukee Press Club President Gene Mueller\, host of Wisconsin’s Morning News at News Radio 620 WTMJ. \nThe media panel:\nAshley Luthern – Reporter\, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel\nRyan Jenkins – Reporter\, TMJ4 – WTMJ TV\nDerrick Rose – Anchor/Investigative Reporter\, WISN TV \nYou must register in advance to view this event.
