SUMMARY:Experimental Tuesdays: Short films by Amir George
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of short films by Amir George who will also be in attendance at the screening. \nAmir George creates spiritual stories\, juxtaposing sound and image with a non-linear perception. He creates fragmented vignettes that conjure the secret life of objects both found and collected. The characters that inhabit his stories tend to dwell outside of social norms and exist in the space between and in the process of becoming. Amir’s short films have screened at film festivals including BlackStar Film Festival\, Rockaway Film Festival and Camden International Film Festival\, as well as cultural institutions\, including Institute of Contemporary Arts\, London; Moma PS1; Royal College of Art; Museum of Contemporary Arts\, Los Angeles; and Museum of Contemporary Arts Detroit.

SUMMARY:You on the Moors Now
DESCRIPTION:The UWM Theatre Department’s exploration of the moors culminates with an imagined reunion of 19th-century heroines from Pride and Prejudice\, Wuthering Heights\, Jane Eyre\, and Little Women. Only this time around\, these heroines resolutely decline the advances of their famous suitors and grapple with the challenge of reconciling historical romantic ideals with their contemporary perspectives on courtship. This clever play offers an empowering perspective on a group of women who not only reject their passionate suitors but also defy the conventions and societal norms expected of them.

SUMMARY:Cirque Mechanics: ZEPHYR
DESCRIPTION:Experience this breathtaking theatrical circus show that harnesses human power to generate an energetic acrobatic performance. Zephyr – A Whirlwind of Circus by Cirque Mechanics is an emotive and exhilarating tale about human ingenuity and our natural resources. \nWith their thoughtfully engineered blend of artful storytelling\, high-level acrobatics\, and fanciful contraptions\, Cirque Mechanics defies categorization. \nIn Zephyr\, they celebrate the wind power that humans have harnessed for thousands of years and the machines we’ve used to do it. A giant windmill mounted on a turntable harnesses the power and energy of people rather than the wind as performers fly\, balance\, float on air\, and defy gravity in this whirlwind circus performance. \nThis is high-flying\, eye-popping\, heart-stopping amazement geared to blow away audiences of all ages.

SUMMARY:Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears\, Shane Guerrette @ Vivarium
DESCRIPTION:Join Vivarium for an evening of live music featuring Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears and Shane Guerette! \nWhile working at a pawn shop in Austin\, Joe Lewis first picked up the guitar. Shortly thereafter\, Joe Lewis immersed himself in the local Red River blues/garage scene\, recording and performing with Austin luminaries such as the Weary Boys and Walter Daniels. Upon the release of the 2005 Brian Salvi produced Black Joe Lewis and The Cold Breeze EP with standout track “Bitch I Love You” featuring Matt Hubbard on Rhodes electric piano and the 2007 album Black Joe Lewis\, both released on Italian label Shake Yo Ass Records\, the band gained critical national acclaim and toured as openers for Spoon and Okkervil River in 2007. \nInspired by generations preceding him\, Shane Guerrette drew influence from classic soul and roots rock music to craft his own fresh\, retro-flavored sound. With just an iPhone and a laptop\, he made his dream a reality from the comfort of his own bedroom in upstate New York. Instead of a premature fast-track to fame after receiving the Golden Ticket on the 2021 season of American Idol\, the old-school rocker chose to tell his story in a more authentic way.
