This piece of artwork honors the depth and history of Native people across the US.

DESCRIPTION:To help us understand how various forms of opioids and other deadly substances find their way into our community and what we can do about it\, on November 2\, Community Advocates Public Policy Institute will host a special night with investigative reporter Ben Westhoff\, author of Fentanyl\, Inc.: How Rogue Chemists Created the Deadliest Wave of the Opioid Epidemic. \nIn his book\, Westhoff\, the first journalist to infiltrate a fentanyl lab in China\, explores the rise of fentanyl along with other synthetic drugs that are replacing traditional street drugs and operate in a legal gray area. He also covers how global capitalism and new technologies underpin the international drug trade. \nWesthoff will keynote Community Advocates Public Policy Institute’s 15th anniversary event on Thursday\, November 2\, at the Grace Center in Downtown Milwaukee. The evening will feature presentations by local leaders\, a book signing with Westhoff\, appetizers and desserts\, nonalcoholic “mocktails” specifically developed for our guests\, a silent auction\, and free Narcan and training. SUMMARY:'Into the Night' Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:The turn of the 20th century witnessed a surge in the creation and popularity of nocturnes and night landscapes in American art. Nocturne painting is a term coined by James Abbott McNeill Whistler to describe his painting style that depicts scenes evocative of the night and of subjects that appear in a veil of light. Whistler used the term within the title of his works to represent paintings with a dreamy mood. In broader usage\, the term has come to refer to any painting of a night scene. \nThis group exhibition features a variety of contemporary artists\, each giving their own fresh and unique take on what a nocturne means to them. The thought-provoking work ranges from traditional landscapes to figurative to a surreal still life. Participating artists include Marc Anderson\, David Dunlop\, Jeff Faust\, Chris Groves\, Susan Hall\, John MacDonald\, Michael Patterson\, Andrew Portwood\, H.M. Saffer\, Diane Washa and Shirley Cean Youngs.
