SUMMARY:Creating Sketch Comedy During A Pandemic - Virtual Class
DESCRIPTION:“Creating Sketch Comedy During a Pandemic”\nAn Online Comedy Class for Adults\nWeekly On Thursdays\, Jan 14\, 2021 – Mar 4\, 2021\, 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.\n$200 for 8 virtual classes\, register at https://www.improvmke.com/\nClass meets online via Zoom\nWant to pick up a new skill in 2021? Looking for something safe and fun to do in the pandemic? Or after 2020\, are you just really in need of a laugh? Lucky for you\, the seasoned performers of Improv MKE are offering online classes so you can learn to crack people up in the comfort of your own home. In Creating Sketch Comedy During A Pandemic\, Milwaukee comedian Matthew Filipowicz will teach you how to create the style of comedy made famous by Saturday Night Live\, Monty Python\, Key and Peele\, and more using nothing more than your computer and cell phone.\nSketch comedy is traditionally composed and performed by a group of comedians together in the same room\, so how do you make sketch comedy when you can’t share physical space with other performers? In CREATING SKETCH COMEDY DURING A PANDEMIC\, students will learn different styles of sketches\, as well as techniques for creating premises and characters. No need for expensive equipment–students will write\, rehearse and create original video comedy sketches using nothing more than their computer and cell phone. \nPrerequisites\nStudents need access to a computer or cell phone with a camera\, and a stable internet connection\nStudents must commit to writing and working on their sketches outside of class\nStudents will leave the class with at least two complete original video sketches\nImprov MKE is a Black woman-owned improv theater founded by Milwaukee comedian Michelle Gilliam to create access\, both in-person and online\, for people to have fun\, learn\, grow\, and play together in ways they never thought possible.\nMatthew Filipowicz is a comedian\, cartoonist\, progressive talk radio host and the founder and host of Laughing Liberally Milwaukee. Matthew’s work has been featured on CNN\, NPR\, PBS\, HBO\, BBC\, Ain’t It Cool News\, the New York Times\, the Wall Street Journal\, the Atlantic\, the Nation\, the London Times\, and countless sites in the progressive blogosphere including Salon\, Daily Kos and the Huffington Post.

SUMMARY:Milwaukee Bay Virtual Raft Up
DESCRIPTION:For sailors in the Milwaukee area\, early January is a time when we often bundle up and road trip to Chicago for the boat show. But\, of course\, that’s not happening this year. For those who are missing the community and connection\, we welcome them to the Milwaukee Bay Virtual Raft Up. \nA raft up occurs when one boat anchors and others are tied to it\, essentially creating a big raft. If you’ve sailed on Lake Michigan in the Milwaukee\, Wisconsin area\, or thought about it\, or know people who have\, or wanted to know them… then join us on our virtual raft! The program is free and open to anyone anywhere\, no registration or sailing experience necessary. \nAlthough some of the groups involved are membership-based\, it is not a sales event. Each group will have its own breakout room within one Zoom link. Participants will only need to login once at www.virtualraftup.com and then can visit any room or rooms they’d like. The participating organizations are:\n• Midwest Women’s Sailing Conference (anchoring the event)\n• Friends of the Denis Sullivan\n• MAST Racing\n• McBoat\n• Milwaukee Bay Women’s Sailing Organization\n• Milwaukee Community Sailing Center\n• Milwaukee Harbor Yacht Club\n• Milwaukee Water Commons\n• Milwaukee Yacht Club\n• South Shore Yacht Club \nWe’ll have a “dockmaster” to help folks navigate the virtual waters. Participants can chat with friends\, meet new people\, learn about boating in Milwaukee Bay\, and generally just hang out.
