SUMMARY:Ultimate Beer Run 3.7K
DESCRIPTION:The Ultimate Beer Run is a high energy run/walk with hops\, high fives\, a mid-point beer\, and a finisher beer at City Lights Brewing and Third Space Brewing. Wow! Two complimentary beers and you don’t even have to wait until the end to cash in! \nHalf of the group will start at Third Space Brewing and make their way\, some faster some slower\, to City Lights Brewing where they will enjoy a delicately handcrafted beer. The other half of the group will start at City Lights and head to Third Space where they will enjoy their very own freshly brewed beer. After getting a taste of goodness at the midway point\, registrants complete the loop to their starting points where their taste buds will bask in the goodness of yet another beer! \nYou can run\, jog\, walk\, or crawl this 3.7k. After rehydrating at the finish line\, stick around for the day’s entertainment: food\, fun\, more beer\, yard games\, and the best hits from 1999 to celebrate 20 years of transformation in the Menomonee River Valley. Top off the fun by donning your best 90s garb. The Valley isn’t the only thing that’s changed in the last 20 years!

SUMMARY:Wisconsin Suffrage & Education Presented by Priscilla Pardini
DESCRIPTION:Wisconsin Humanities Council is sponsoring a series of FREE presentations at the Chudnow Museum of Yesteryear in coordination with the museum’s Forward Wisconsin Women exhibit. \nAs a state largely populated by new American immigrants\, Milwaukee grew its own identity concerning issues of schoooling\, labor unions and public betterment. Wisconsin’s 1848 State Constitution was passed without giving women the vote. Having been unable to persuade the conventnion\, women immediatley set to change that. Theses suffragists found local allies in reform movements like the tent Chattaquas.

SUMMARY:We’ve Been Here All Along: A Discussion with Richard Wagner on Wisconsin’s Early Gay History
DESCRIPTION:Richard Wagner\, author of the recently published\, We’ve Been Here All Along: Wisconsin’s Early Gay History\, (Wisconsin Historical Society Press\, 2019)\, will give a presentation about his book at 7 p.m. on Wednesday\, September 18\, 2019 in the fourth floor Conference Center of the UWM Golda Meir Library\, 2311 E. Hartford Ave. \nThe first of two groundbreaking volumes on gay history in Wisconsin\, We’ve Been Here All Along provides an illuminating and nuanced picture of Wisconsin’s gay history from the reporting on the Oscar Wilde trials of 1895 to the landmark Stonewall Riots of 1969. \nThroughout these decades\, gay Wisconsinites developed identities\, created support networks\, and found ways to thrive in their communities despite various forms of suppression–from the anti-vice crusades of the early twentieth century\, to the post-war labeling of homosexuality as an illness\, to the Lavender Scare of the 1950s. \nIn We’ve Been Here All Along\, Wagner draws on historical research and materials from his own extensive archive to uncover previously hidden stories of gay Wisconsinites. This book honors their legacy and confirms that they have been fundamental to the development and evolution of the state since its earliest days. \nThe talk\, free and open to the public\, is sponsored by the Wisconsin Historical Society Press and UWM Libraries\, and co-sponsored by Boswell Book Company\, UWM LGBT Studies Program\, and UWM LGBT Resource Center. \nThere will be an exhibit featuring some of the source materials for the book\, drawn from the collections of the Wisconsin Historical Society and the UWM Libraries. \nCopies of We’ve Been Here All Along will be available for purchase from Boswell Book Company at the event. \nScholar and activist R. Richard Wagner was the first openly gay member of the Dane County Board of Supervisors\, where he served for fourteen years. In 1983 he was appointed by Governor Tony Earl to co-chair the Governor’s Council on Lesbian and Gay Issues\, the first in the nation. In 2005 he joined the Board of Fair Wisconsin to fight the constitutional amendment against marriage equality. \n

SUMMARY:Trapper Schoepp Live at the Peck
DESCRIPTION:The Milwaukee-based tunesmith had been on a roll\, earning acclaim as one of America’s most gifted new singer-songwriters\, singled out for his remarkably detailed tales of characters on the fringes of society. \nHis Brendan Benson-produced second album\, 2016’s “Rangers & Valentines”\, was hailed among that year’s finest\, declared a “mini masterpiece” by Relix after being named Billboard’s “Best of the Week.” \nBut by the time 2016 came to its end\, Schoepp had split with his longtime partner\, been all but forced out of his longtime home and band clubhouse by a new landlord\, and worst of all\, painfully re-herniated a disc in his back that had plagued him for years.

SUMMARY:The New Grey Live at the Peck
DESCRIPTION:The New Grey was solidified as a band in August of 2017. However\, its roots began in 2013\, when bassist\, Jake Rieboldt\, and Luis Santana (drums) disbanded from a previous project\, deciding to move in a different musical direction. \nAfter one year of songwriting with multiple guitarists\, Mike Hartl (guitar) was discovered through a Craigslist ad. Mike’s clean blues rock style and Reggae flair were a welcome addition to the group\, adding a different dynamic to the Indie Rock foundation that Rieboldt and Santana had already established. In what seemed like a futile effort\, the band continued to audition one singer after the next. This went on for nearly four years until Hartl walked into an open mic night and heard Johnny Helm\, an R&B solo artist. Helm had been releasing singles on his own\, working the open mic circuit in Racine\, Wisconsin. \nWhile it was no doubt that Helm had talent\, Santana was not convinced that his R&B style would gel with the instrumentation. This assumption was quickly dispelled\, when Johnny easily freestyled over an open jam\, revealing that he was not only a talented R&B vocalist\, but could also bring an aggressive\, yet powerful Hip Hop element to the table. Johnny’s unique blend of Hip Hop and R&B\, along with the band’s instrumentation\, proved to be a long awaited breath of fresh air. \nAfter only four months together\, the band hit the studio\, producing a five song self-titled EP. They then hit the ground running to promote it\, playing both local and regional venues ranging from basements and bars to colleges and festivals. Less than a year from conception\, they began receiving radio play\, reviews\, and were asked to perform on the Emerging Artist Stage at Summerfest. With two EPs under their belt\, and plans to return to the studio to begin work on their third\, there is no telling what is ahead for The New Grey’s musical endeavors.

SUMMARY:Unnecessary Farce
DESCRIPTION:A perfect summertime romp! Featuring Jonathan Gillard Daly\, Tim Higgins\, Rick Pendzich\, Amber Smith\, Jenny Wanasek\, Ben Yela\, Rachael Zientek. Undercover cops Eric and Billie have one job to do: Sit in their Sheboygan motel room and monitor the meeting in the room next door\, where an embezzling mayor is supposed to meet with his female accountant. Simple. Easy. And yet a number of troubling questions need answering. Who’s in which room? Who’s hired an incomprehensible Scottish hit man? Who’s really taken the money? And why does the accountant keep taking off her clothes? Paul Slade Smith’s truly criminal comic sensation riotously re-invents the door-slamming farce for the digital age.
