DESCRIPTION:With right wing attacks on LGBTQ rights\, abortion rights\, voting rights and more\, we need progressive laughs now more than ever. That’s why we’re excited to present Laughing Liberally Milwaukee\, a monthly progressive political comedy show featuring Milwaukee’s top liberal and progressive comedians. \nLaughing Liberally Milwaukee is hosted by comedian\, cartoonist and satirist Matthew Filipowicz. Matthew’s work has been featured by CNN\, NPR\, PBS\, HBO\, BBC\, the New York Times\, the Wall Street Journal\, the Atlantic\, the Nation\, the London Times\, Ain’t It Cool News\, and the Huffington Post. Matthew also hosts the creatively titled Laughing Liberally Milwaukee Podcast. \nComedians on the April 11th bill include Raegan Niemela\, Chloe Mikala\, Diego Avila\, Alecia Altstaetter\, and sketch comedy troupe The Accountants Of Homeland Security. \nIn addition to some of the finest progressive comedians Milwaukee has to offer\, each Laughing Liberally Milwaukee features a special interview with a local activist\, journalist\, or political figure. SUMMARY:Dead Man Walking: A Conversation with Sister Helen Prejean
DESCRIPTION:Mount Mary University welcomes world-renown death penalty abolitionist Sister Helen Prejean on Friday\, Apr. 17\, 2026. Prejean will speak at a community-wide event beginning at noon in Bergstrom Hall on the Mount Mary University campus. The presentation will be followed by a book signing. \nPrejean is the author of several books\, including “Dead Man Walking: An Eyewitness Account of the Death Penalty in the United States\,” which served as inspiration for the Academy Award-winning 1995 film\, “Dead Man Walking.” Her passionate advocacy work has spanned over four decades and has taken her across the globe. Prejean is an inspiring speaker and storyteller who is a frequent guest at various colleges and universities\, on podcasts and TV shows\, and is in conversation with influential figures in society–– including actors\, religious leaders and U.S. presidents. She was also awarded an honorary doctorate from Mount Mary in 2010. \nThis event is free and open to the public\, but registration is required.
