SUMMARY:The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain
DESCRIPTION:“The most revelatory moment … probably came during its performance of ‘Psycho Killer\,’ the Talking Heads song\, when you realized that David Byrne had missed the boat by not recording the tune with an ensemble of singing ukulele players.” – Allan Kozinn\, The New York Times \nFounded in 1985 by George Hinchcliffe and Kitty Lux\, The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain is now an octet\, made up of ukuleles of different size and pitches\, physical comedy\, pun-filled banter\, and finely nuanced playing. While it is not normally in the nature of these artists from Britain to “blow their own trumpets”—or in this case to “pluck their own ukuleles”—it is undeniably a fact that The Ukulele Orchestra has become a worldwide phenomenon\, having “Sold Right Out” twice at Carnegie Hall in New York\, twice at The Royal Albert Hall in London\, and also at the Sydney Opera House in Australia. In 2015\, The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain celebrated 16 million minutes of “ukuleleation\,” having been on the road for 30 years and counting. \n
