DESCRIPTION:CHAIR5: Perspectives on Form\, Function and Innovation is an exhibition on view in the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design’s Brooks Stevens Gallery\, October 20\, 2017 – March 3\, 2018. The Opening Reception is Friday\, October 20\, 5 – 9 p.m. for Fall Gallery Night. \nPlease note that gallery hours are Monday-Saturday\, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. \nThis experimental furniture exhibit in MIAD’s Brooks Stevens Gallery introduces visitors to myriad ways to think about chairs\, “chairness”\, and the physical act of sitting. Spanning across time and place\, the displays will include a selection of historic\, reproduction\, and contemporary seating furniture forms. \nThis exhibition is a MIAD/Chipstone Foundation collaboration co-curated by Jon Prown\, Brent Budsberg and Eric Vogel. Primary exhibit design is by Brent Budsberg. \n

DESCRIPTION:Award-winning actor/director/playwright Frank Ferrante recreates his PBS-\, New York-\, and London-acclaimed portrayal of legendary comedian Groucho Marx in this fast-paced 90 minutes of hilarity. The two-act comedy consists of the best Groucho one-liners\, anecdotes\, and songs\, including “Hooray For Captain Spalding” and “Lydia\, the Tattooed Lady.” The audience literally becomes part of the show as Ferrante ad-libs his way throughout the performance in grand Groucho style. \nAccompanied by his onstage pianist\, Ferrante portrays the young Groucho of stage and film and reacquaints us with the likes of brothers Harpo\, Chico\, Zeppo\, and Gummo; Charlie Chaplin; W.C. Fields; Greta Garbo; Marx foil Margaret Dumont; and MGM’s Louis B. Mayer. A show perfect for all ages! \n

DESCRIPTION:What is the value of rest? How do we make time to disconnect in our modern hyper-plugged-in\, hurry-sick world? Could our IT-focused world alter the structure and functioning of the brain? \nJoin Philip Chard\, psychotherapist and writer of Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s weekly column\, “Out of My Mind\,” to explore the physical and spiritual effects that technology can have on the brain\, as well as the benefits that a digital detox can bring. \nChard will discuss the strong interfaces between the need to disconnect and traditional religious practices surrounding the Sabbath and will examine specific\, actionable approaches to creating and sustaining a healthy mind. The presentation will be followed by a book signing. Chard’s second book Nature’s Way: Experiencing the Sacred in the Natural World will be available for purchase. \n
