SUMMARY:8th Annual Dia De Los Muertos
DESCRIPTION:Día de los Muertos Milwaukee Parade Project was founded in the Summer of 2010 by local artists and families working together to create cultural awareness by educating the community in the Milwaukee area on the traditions of El Día de los Muertos/The Day of the Dead. The traditional holiday is spread out over several days in early November traditionally in Mexico. \nMembers who help organize this parade project\, have spent time or lived in Mexico learning about their cultural roots and deep traditions that are now shared with the greater Milwaukee area helping to create leaders in the wake of tragedy and in times of violence. Milwaukee has become one of the most segregated and violent cities in the US\, through this project we hope to help stop this violence by teaching the traditions of honoring lives that have been lost to death. By honoring these lives we have seen the youth come together in times of tragedy by working together to honor a life\, to remember and celebrate the life of a person who has passed away. \nCommunity members are welcomed to participate in this procession of honoring life and celebrating the lives of those we have lost. All are welcome to express themselves how they feel they need to. Some people participate in workshops where we build Ofrendas/Shrines\, puppets\, masks\, memorials\, flowers\, musical instruments\, dance\, run/walk\, sing and so much more.\nAll are welcome to join in the procession. \n
