SUMMARY:1-Day Painting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join oil painter Antwan Ramar at the new JK Art House for an immersive day of learning designed for artists and art lovers alike. \nThis workshop will include an introductory lecture and live demonstration to give attendees insight into the mind of the painter and the process of creating beautiful art. \nSaturday Aug 1st\, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. \n– Morning Session (10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.): A visual presentation on the core fundamentals of painting and the visual language we all read\, but artists learn to speak. This will be followed by an oil demonstration on the exciting principles of light\, color\, and the captivating qualities of Impressionism. \n– Lunch Break (12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.): attendees are responsible for their own meal. \n– Afternoon “En Plein Air” Demo (1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.): Weather permitting\, Antwan will conduct a one-hour outdoor demonstration in front of the gallery to illustrate the importance of painting from life and planning for success. \n– Studio Wrap-up: A summary of the day’s techniques followed by an open Q&A session. \nPersonalized Feedback Opportunity:\nThe day will conclude with voluntary 10-minute one-on-one critiques. Attendees are encouraged to bring a physical painting or a photo of a work they love or are currently struggling with. Sinclair is Assistant Professor of History and Africana Studies at the University of Virginia’s Carter G. Woodson Institute. She specializes in the history of U.S. empire\, military occupation\, gender\, and resistance in the Caribbean and its diasporas. Her current book project explores Haitian women’s lives and labors during the 19-year U.S. military occupation of Haiti (1915-1934). Dr. Sinclair earned her PhD in History\, African American Studies\, and Gender and Sexuality Studies from Princeton University and BA with honors from Stanford University.
