SUMMARY:"Temporal Bridge - Shadows of Milwaukee" Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:“Temporal Bridge – Shadows of Milwaukee” – Opening Thursday\, June 5. \nArt on view: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at MOWA on the Lake\, Artist talk at 6 p.m. \nA new photography exhibition\, Temporal Bridge – Shadows of Milwaukee\, will open to the public on Thursday\, June 5 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at MOWA on the Lake\, 1840 N. Prospect Ave. This special evening invites viewers to explore the fragile yet profound connections between eras\, evoked through photographic works that blend antique processes with a contemporary vision. \nAt the heart of Temporal Bridge is a body of work created by Eric Baillies using 19th-century photographic processes such as collodion and gelatin glass negatives. These techniques are employed to capture contemporary scenes and subjects using large 8×10” and ultra large 20×24” format plate cameras. The resulting handmade images do more than preserve a moment\, they activate it. By embedding the modern world within antique methods\, Baillies creates a tangible and temporal shift that invites viewers into a dialogue between eras. The work exists in a space of known unknowns\, where time blurs\, and the viewer is offered a gateway to endless possibilities and a renewed sense of wonder. \nAs Ansel Adams famously said\, ‘You don’t take a photograph\, you make it\, a sentiment that has always resonated strongly with Eric and his approach to photography. Temporal Bridge asks: What happens when a city celebrates its creative self and we channel that energy into building community\, forging connections\, and creating space for growth? \nJoin MOWA on the Lake for an immersive evening of art\, conversation\, and community. Light refreshments will be served\, and the artist will be present for an artist talk at 6 p.m. \n

SUMMARY:Chillable Red Wines
DESCRIPTION:No\, we aren’t talking about your grandmother’s old box of Franzia in the fridge. We’re talking about high-end\, world-class\, stunning red wine that is even more delicious when served with a chill. \nMost wine professionals will agree that the majority of\, if not all\, red wines are best enjoyed with a slight chill—aim for between 60 and 65 degrees for full-bodied reds. Certain red wines\, however—most notably light-to-medium-bodied wines marked by high acidity and low tannins\, are often best when served even cooler\, between about 50 and 55 degrees. \nChilling red wine is far from a new phenomenon\, though not enough wine lovers partake in this simple delight. On the contrary\, a majority of wine drinkers still adhere to the outdated belief that while white wine should be served chilled\, reds are meant to be consumed at room temperature. During the decades or centuries when “room temperature” was generally closer to that of cellar temperature\, that assertion may certainly have been correct\, but it’s much less so in contemporary times. \nHowever\, a good number of red wines actually come to life when served at cooler temperatures—and\, fortunately\, they happen to be the lighter-bodied reds that many people prefer to drink in the warmer months of summer and early autumn. And we’re going to explore some beauties at this tasting! \nWines to be tasted: \nAltos las Hormigas Tinto $18.99\nAzul Y Garanza Suelovivo Tinto $26.99\nCavalchina Bardolino DOC $24.99\nJ. Mourat VDF Owl Collection Rouge 2021 $21.99\nLubanzi Cinsault $21.99\nMas Que Vinos Los Conejos Malditos Tempranillo Carbonico $18.99\nSeghesio Dolcetto d Alba $21.99\nSo Fresh Love You Bunches Red Santa Barbara County (Sangiovese) $36.99\nTavignano Lacrimi Morro d’Alba Barbarossa $24.99\nTre Monti Doppio Rosso Barbera Frizzante $26.99 \nAll prices listed shown are regular retail. \nSignificant discounts offered on all wines at the tasting. Due to the their highly allocated nature\, some wines may change without notice. \n

SUMMARY:Mary Poppins
DESCRIPTION:Practically perfect in every way! The jack-of-all trades\, Bert\, introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense\, she must teach the family members how to value each other again. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures\, but Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones upon whom she has a profound effect. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “Anything can happen if you let it.” \n
