DESCRIPTION:In honor of Native American Heritage Month at MPM\, presented by Potawatomi Casino Hotel\, visit MPM’s Second Floor exhibits from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on our Kohl’s Thank You Thursday FREE admission day\, Thursday\, November 2\, to learn about Native American traditions\, history and art. \nOur Tribal Liaison will be in the Native Games exhibit to share details about the cultural significance of the game of lacrosse and its deep-rooted traditions among tribal nations. \nIn front of the Bison Hunt exhibit\, our Research Curator of Cultural Sciences will be sharing ledger art drawings from Plains Indians from the late 1800s\, which documented daily life and events\, and serve as a means of Native American heritage\, identity\, and cultural preservation. \nLocal artist Jesus Avila will also be at MPM to display and discuss his mural\, We the People\, All the Nations. This piece of artwork honors the depth and history of Native people across the US. \n

DESCRIPTION:To help us understand how various forms of opioids and other deadly substances find their way into our community and what we can do about it\, on November 2\, Community Advocates Public Policy Institute will host a special night with investigative reporter Ben Westhoff\, author of Fentanyl\, Inc.: How Rogue Chemists Created the Deadliest Wave of the Opioid Epidemic. \nIn his book\, Westhoff\, the first journalist to infiltrate a fentanyl lab in China\, explores the rise of fentanyl along with other synthetic drugs that are replacing traditional street drugs and operate in a legal gray area. He also covers how global capitalism and new technologies underpin the international drug trade. \nWesthoff will keynote Community Advocates Public Policy Institute’s 15th anniversary event on Thursday\, November 2\, at the Grace Center in Downtown Milwaukee. The evening will feature presentations by local leaders\, a book signing with Westhoff\, appetizers and desserts\, nonalcoholic “mocktails” specifically developed for our guests\, a silent auction\, and free Narcan and training. Our event sponsors\, PPI Members\, and special guests will be able to meet Westhoff in an intimate gathering before the program begins and may receive a complimentary copy of his book. \n

Tickets may be available at the door for $15.\nLimited Pay-it-forward tickets available! \nEx Fabula StorySlams are live events where community members connect and share true\, personal stories related to the night’s theme\, told without props or notes. Come just to listen – or throw your name in the hat for a chance to share a true story related to the theme ‘Oops\, I Did it Again….’ At the end of the night\, the audience votes by secret ballot to crown an *Audience Favorite. \nThe audience can also be a part of the storytelling by submitting UltraShorts!
