SUMMARY:2023 UPAF Ride for the Arts
DESCRIPTION:The United Performing Arts Fund’s annual Ride for the Arts\, presented by Miller Lite\, returns June 4\, with an expanded Hoan Loop Course and finish line party at Henry Maier Festival Park. \nUtilizing Lincoln Memorial Drive up north to Lake Park\, then back south over the Hoan Bridge\, along 794 to Pennsylvania Ave and back again\, this one-of-a-kind course offers scenic views of Milwaukee for riders of all ages and abilities. Completely closed to car traffic\, bikes rule the road! \nFrom 7 a.m. to 11 a.m\, ride as little or as much of the 20-mile loop course as desired. We welcome all riders and have a variety of options with different routes and distances ranging from 7 to 15 miles. Plus we have a 1.5 mile Arts Path at Lakeshore State Park\, this short-distance ride offers greater access to riders of all ages and abilities\, especially designed with families in mind. \nFollowing the ride\, UPAF will host a finish line party at Henry Maier Festival Park from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The event will feature food and drink (including free Miller Lite for all riders 21+) and live entertainment from UPAF Member groups and activities for all ages. All proceeds from the UPAF Ride for the Arts\, including donations through fundraising efforts and sponsorship donations\, UPAF programs and all 47 performing arts organizations it funds. \n

DESCRIPTION:Danceworks Performance MKE (DPMKE) presents “Small but Mighty\,” a dance showcase featuring Milwaukee chamber ensembles Microcosm Ensemble\, Black Cat Ensemble\, Cosmo Reed Quintet and the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra. This performance captures the essence of Chamber music\, known for its subtlety and intimacy. As the single voice of each instrument stands alone with clarity and delicacy\, the combination creates mighty ornamentation and complexity that transports listeners to different worlds. Highlights include a collaboration between DPMKE member Nekea Leon and Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Steel Band Ensemble\, along with world premieres by Soloist Elisabeth Roskopf\, Artistic Director Christal Wagner and Choreographer Gina Laurenzi. Also appearing on the concert is Danceworks Intergenerational Performance Company (DIPC) also directed by Laurenzi and Danceworks Youth Performance Company (DYPC) directed by Gabi Sustache. The tempo is upbeat\, and the players are familiar\, with Mike Sieger on bass and brotherly harmonies\, Bob Jennings on keys and sax\, and Bob Schneider on drums. The Combo packs a lot into an hour and a half set — come on down! \nTickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Advance tickets are available until 3 p.m. day of show.
