Pianist/songwriter Johnny Iguana formed the Claudettes with drummer Michael Caskey\, dazzling with the barrelhouse bravura of their 2013 debut Infernal Piano Plot…HATCHED! Another Yellow Dog Records release followed in 2015 featuring Nigerian-American singer Yana: No Hotel. Vocalist Berit Ulseth joined the band for Pull Closer to Me: Live in the Piano Room (2017) and Dance Scandal at the Gymnasium (2018\, helmed by Grammy-winning Black Keys producer Mark Neill). \n

SUMMARY:"Tonalism Now" Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:The tradition of Tonalism has permeated American landscape painting for centuries. Championed by masters George Inness\, Wolf Kahn\, James McNeill Whistler\, and Birge Harrison\, the genre has been carried on by those who have studied their techniques and approaches\, like contemporary painter John MacDonald (b. 1957). \nA student and mentee of Tonalist master Curt Hanson (1945-2016)\, John MacDonald’s ethereal landscapes encompass the key components of the genre: subtle color tones\, depiction of atmosphere\, the use of soft-edged\, abstracted forms to create an immediacy of emotional response\, and an overall emphasis on the mood of a scene over the representational depiction of place. These elements\, when purposefully employed\, create the striking\, bold\, and poetically-charged landscapes that MacDonald is known for. \n“Tonalism Now” is a contemporary look at a historical genre\, featuring new paintings by John MacDonald hung beside those of his mentor\, Curt Hanson. The stylistic lineage that exists between these two artists is explored in this exhibition\, highlighting the importance of carrying on this historical genre through a contemporary lens. \n

DESCRIPTION:Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co. presents an evening of live music featuring Louie & The Flashbombs\, Wire & Nail an Bing Bong! This show is a celebration of Louie & The Flashbombs’ debut EP “Shiny New Skin!” \nPowered by Louie Lucchesi’s unmistakable voice\, Louie & The Flashbombs perform original songs co-authored by Lucchesi and veteran Milwaukee songwriter Mike Benign. The Flashbombs’ songs blend Lucchesi’s love of 1970s New York City rock with Benign’s knack for hooky alternative pop. \nNothing better than a Saturday Night in a Northwoods Tavern. Longnecks & Shooters. Darts & Pool. Romance & Good times. Wire & Nail. This tight combo from Milwaukee loves nothing better than to supply the soundtrack. Equal parts Honky Tonk and Rock n Roll\, Wire & Nail have the chops to keep the evening rolling. \nLoaded like a shotgun\, the band comes stacked with tight harmonies\, great tone\, an on point rhythm section and enough swagger to back it up. \nBingBong formed in 2012\, quickly becoming one of Madison\, Wisconsin’s favorite bands. Their 2021 single\, Faces was named the Madison Area Music Association (MAMA) overall Song of the Year. BingBong has previously won MAMA Awards for 2020 Rock Performer of the Year\, Rock Song of the Year for Bouncing Ball. It’s Complicated\, the lead single to their debut album\, won 2018 Rock Song of the Year (four more songs from Pop Restoration were final nominees for the 2018 MAMAs). Members of the band formed around their love for late-70s and early-80s guitar rock. Striving to revive the verve and the energetic power pop of that time\, they’re heavily influenced by greats like Rockpile\, The Pretenders\, and The Smiths. BingBong’s raucous live shows—as witnessed by that blowout show at the storied Double Door in Chicago (2014)—speak to their ability to pack a larger venue with pure energy. Their local pub gigs yield a feeling of “Wow! I just witnessed something awesome!” \nTickets are $10. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 8 p.m. \n  \n
