SUMMARY:Rising Stars in Classical Music to Perform Innovative Program
DESCRIPTION:If violinist Melissa White and pianist Pallavi Mahidhara are the future of classical music\, then the future is bright! Award-winning artists and longtime friends\, they combine their talents for a recital at the Sarah Ball Allis Art Museum on Thursday\, May 4\, 2023 at 7:30 pm. Concert Conversations at 6:30 pm. \nIn this innovative program\, White and Mahidhara cross the spectrum of violin and piano repertoire. “We are performing works by composers who represent a diversity of backgrounds\, much like the two of us\,” explains Mahidhara. \nWith a nod to the exhibit celebrating women at the Sarah Ball Allis Art Museum\, the duo will perform works by American women composers Amy Beach and Nokuthula Ngwenyama. The concert also includes works by Johannes Brahms\, William Grant Still\, and a transcription by Jascha Heifetz of George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess. They are performing this program for only two concerts\, one in Milwaukee and a sold-out show in Washington D.C. \n

When a struggling young screenwriter named Joe Gillis stumbles upon her home\, Norma sees an opportunity to make a comeback and becomes increasingly dependent on him. As their relationship and her obsession deepens\, the lines between reality and delusion begin to blur\, and the consequences of Norma’s obsession become deadly. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony Award-winning masterwork of dreams and desire in the land called Hollywood includes the lush\, swelling standards “With One Look\,” “As If We Never Said Goodbye” and “Perfect Year.” Sunset Boulevard will run from April 21 to May 7. \n

Coming from varied musical backgrounds\, the five-person ensemble creates a sound unique to them\, but one that appeals to audiences of all ages. The Bird Dogs weave stories through their songs that are reflective\, joyous\, longing\, or meant to share a journey with the listener. Through it all\, the band is able to convey heartfelt honesty\, getting the audience to immerse themselves in the moment by dancing\, singing and laughing along. \nSugar Bush features members of Chicken Wire Empire\, The MilBillies and Beyond. \nTickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.
