SUMMARY:The Claudettes + Elephonic
DESCRIPTION:Join Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co. for an evening of live music featuring The Claudettes and Elephonic! \nGrounded in roots music yet pushing the boundaries of indie pop and rock\, the Claudettes are writing the most riveting chapter of their story right now. Pianist/songwriter Johnny Iguana formed the Claudettes with drummer Michael Caskey\, dazzling with the barrelhouse bravura of their 2013 debut Infernal Piano Plot…HATCHED! Another Yellow Dog Records release followed in 2015 featuring Nigerian-American singer Yana: No Hotel. Vocalist Berit Ulseth joined the band for Pull Closer to Me: Live in the Piano Room (2017) and Dance Scandal at the Gymnasium (2018\, helmed by Grammy-winning Black Keys producer Mark Neill). \n

SUMMARY:The Power of Stories in Advancing Reproductive Justice
DESCRIPTION:Join a collective of researchers and community organizers to discuss The Power of Stories in Advancing Reproductive Justice on April 24th at UWM’s Lubar Entrepreneurship Center. \nTwo goals are designed for this community networking event. (1) To offer examples of storytelling projects addressing various reproductive health topics and needs. (2) To create a space for Milwaukee-area researchers and community members to collectively share their own reproductive health and storytelling projects and facilitate opportunities for future collaborations and learning. \nExperience community-based reproductive justice storying projects ranging from infertility and pregnancy loss to Black infant mortality\, to stories written by Latinx health promoters\, a project on obstetric violence in the Caribbean and male experiences with infertility. A series of panelists will discuss how these topics — while varying in reach — use story as a central practice\, tool\, and resource to advance the aims of reproductive justice which is the “human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy\, have children\, not have children\, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities” (SisterSong). \nThe event is in-formal and will feature commentary from Heddy Keith of Center for Leadership of Afrikan Women’s Wellness (CLAWW)\, Assistant Professor Katinka Hooyer of MCW\, Maria Barker of PPWI\, and Anne Basting of UWM’s Center for 21st Studies. \nThe event is divided into three parts:\n5:00-5:40 p.m.: Pop-up Displays of Five Community-Based Reproductive Justice Projects\n5:45-6:15 p.m.: Panel Discussion featuring Heddy Keith\, Katinka Hooyer\, Maria Barker\, and Anne Basting\n6:15-7:00 p.m.: Community Networking & Informal Sharing of Other Reproductive Justice Projects \nThe event is free but we kindly ask you RSVP in advance here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-power-of-stories-in-advancing-reproductive-justice-tickets-597926934557 \n
