SUMMARY:5PM to Nowhere\, The Keystones\, Yonder @ Anodyne
DESCRIPTION:Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co. will host an evening of local music featuring 5PM To Nowhere\, Yonder and The Keystones! \n5PM To Nowhere: 5 PM to Nowhere is an alt-pop 4-piece band formed in 2020 by Milwaukee singer-songwriter Jacob Webb. Evoking the emotional balladry of Coldplay and the thematic songwriting of Sufjan Stevens\, he explores his own experiences and hopes in his music. 5 PM to Nowhere’s upcoming release\, Stoicism\, serves as a culmination of 15 years of musical and emotional exploration\, delving into Webb’s long and tumultuous journey of self-discovery. Stoicism drops on May 13. \nYonder: Founded in 2022 by Jon Blair\, Yonder is an Indie project that encapsulates different styles and approaches towards live shows\, as well as studio recordings. With influences from Alternative\, Reggae\, Americana\, and Jam music\, Yonder fuses genres together with an array of original songs\, as well as a variety of covers. After forming in September 2022\, Yonder has played a bunch of shows in Milwaukee; and have no plans of slowing down in 2023. \nThe Keystones: The Keystones are an alternative modern-rock band based in Milwaukee\, Wisconsin. Born in Waukesha\, the very same place as the electric guitar\, the members of this unique\, out-of-the-box rock group hail from the golden era of grunge guitar\, one that’s full of heavy tones and hypnotizing garage beats that dance between Brit-indie-rock and new-age modern rock sounds. They’re a far cry from the glitzy\, indie pop groups that seem to fall out of the woodwork these days\, and they’re okay with that. Why? Because their goal isn’t to find the glossiest sound. In fact\, it’s much bigger than that: they want to make the town that created the guitar as we know it proud. \nTickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Advance tickets are available until 3 p.m. the day of the show. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the show will begin at 8 p.m. \n

SUMMARY:Hard Times and Handicrafts with Jackie Schweitzer
DESCRIPTION:Join Warehouse Art Museum in welcoming Jackie Schweitzer for a talk about the Works Progress Administration and the Milwaukee Handcraft Project in the late 1930s. \nDuring the height of the Great Depression an innovative Works Progress Administration project in Milwaukee gained national attention for its original designs. Between 1935 and 1942 the Milwaukee Handicraft Project hired thousands of workers to produce textiles\, furniture\, toys and books. This lecture will feature period images of the workers and products from this project and provide context of WPA projects in Milwaukee at that time. \nWAM’s exhibition is the first comprehensive retrospective of Ruth Grotenrath’s work. It begins with black-and-white images made for the 1929 Riverside High School yearbook. The exhibition includes early social realism for the Work Progress Administration (WPA)\, textile designs\, and numerous still lifes. Most of the exhibition features Grotenrath’s invention of a unique\, personal art\, for which she is known and remembered. \nThe exhibition is open until March 31. \nAdmission to WAM is always free. Masks are required. \n
