SUMMARY:Milwaukee Bay Virtual Raft Up
DESCRIPTION:For sailors in the Milwaukee area\, early January is a time when we often bundle up and road trip to Chicago for the boat show. But\, of course\, that’s not happening this year. For those who are missing the community and connection\, we welcome them to the Milwaukee Bay Virtual Raft Up. \nA raft up occurs when one boat anchors and others are tied to it\, essentially creating a big raft. If you’ve sailed on Lake Michigan in the Milwaukee\, Wisconsin area\, or thought about it\, or know people who have\, or wanted to know them… then join us on our virtual raft! The program is free and open to anyone anywhere\, no registration or sailing experience necessary. \nAlthough some of the groups involved are membership-based\, it is not a sales event. Each group will have its own breakout room within one Zoom link. Participants will only need to login once at www.virtualraftup.com and then can visit any room or rooms they’d like. The participating organizations are:\n• Midwest Women’s Sailing Conference (anchoring the event)\n• Friends of the Denis Sullivan\n• MAST Racing\n• McBoat\n• Milwaukee Bay Women’s Sailing Organization\n• Milwaukee Community Sailing Center\n• Milwaukee Harbor Yacht Club\n• Milwaukee Water Commons\n• Milwaukee Yacht Club\n• South Shore Yacht Club \nWe’ll have a “dockmaster” to help folks navigate the virtual waters. Participants can chat with friends\, meet new people\, learn about boating in Milwaukee Bay\, and generally just hang out. \n

SUMMARY:Saint Kate Artist Talk with Jill Sebastian
DESCRIPTION:Please join us virtually for a discussion with Jill Sebastian on her current exhibition at Saint Kate! \nJoin us virtually for a discussion with Milwaukee-based artist Jill Sebastian! \nSebastian will discuss her current exhibition at Saint Kate\, Preoccupations\, a solo show that spans across two Saint Kate galleries to address ongoing preoccupations throughout her life\, both material and historical. Preoccupations articulates the artist’s own experiences of recurrent historical events as a way of investigating our shared cultural\, social\, and public spaces. Through her bold exploration of artistic media\, Sebastian’s works alter our understanding of firmly-entrenched visual concepts such as perspective\, while also engaging our subliminal associations with materials. \nPlease get in touch with Saint Kate Curator\, Samantha Timm\, with any questions at SamanthaTimm@saintkatearts.com \nInterested in coming\, but not quite sure what to expect? Click here to read the Saint Kate CleanCare Pledge which outlines how we have improved our already high standards to keep your health and safety top of mind. \nSebastian’s sculpture\, drawings\, and installations have been exhibited nationally and internationally in New York City\, Los Angeles\, Milwaukee\, Chicago\, Milwaukee\, Tel Aviv\, and Amsterdam\, among other places. With extensive experience in public art installations\, one of her public collaborations include a site-specific installation and multimedia work created with Wild Space Dance Company at the Milwaukee Art Museum. Sebastian is the recipient of several awards including the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship (1985) and the Visual Art Lifetime Achievement Award (2016). Sebastian is a Professor Emerita at Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design. \n
