SUMMARY:Beyond the Stereotypes: A Conversation with Gen X\, Y\, & Z
DESCRIPTION:We all have stereotypes about the generations\, and these play into how we view and market our cities: Gen X’ers favor the suburbs to the city and hold more conservative views. Gen Y’ers (aka millennials) embrace city living\, postpone marriage and can’t save enough money to afford a home. Gen Z’ers seek instagrammable moments and\, as tech natives\, live online. \nThe stereotypes would have us believe that each generation is seeking something drastically different from the place they live. But\, are these generational stereotypes really true? When it comes to our cities\, might people be searching for similar things? \nJoin us for a panel discussion hosted by Visit Milwaukee with representation from Gen X\, Y and Z. Our guests will share their perspectives on Milwaukee and Wisconsin as a place to live\, and how their thoughts have shifted in the different stages of their lives. \nLight lunch will be available while it lasts. More featured speakers coming soon! \nThank you to our sponsors for this event: Concordia University Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. \nFeatured Speakers: \n• Dr. Steve Gerner\, Concordia University Wisconsin Dean of Students and Director of Center for Urban Education Ministries \n• Jilly Gokalgandhi\, Inclusive Excellence Advisor at American Family Insurance \n+++ \nThis event is part of YPWeek Milwaukee presented by Concordia University Wisconsin. \nYPWeek is a week long platform for discovery\, adventure and meaningful conversations about the issues that matter among young professionals. SUMMARY:Candide
DESCRIPTION:Leonard Bernstein’s operetta is a masterpiece for the ages. Based on Voltaire’s satire of innocence\, optimism and life’s unexpected lessons\, Candide tells the story of two young people\, their round-the-world romp and series of absurdly unfortunate events. Bridging the gap between musicals and opera\, Candide holds a special place in Skylight history\, produced twice at Skylight’s old space on Jefferson Street. This is its first time on the Cabot stage. \n

SUMMARY:Shame Show & Tell: The Untold Stories of the Struggle for Success
DESCRIPTION:“Fail fast\, fail often.” It’s a much-loved (and perhaps\, over-used) phrase that captures the spirit of many successful entrepreneurs. There’s a joke in Silicon Valley that until you have a couple of failed companies under your belt\, people may not even take you seriously. \nSo then\, why is it so hard for us to talk about failure? Why do we only lift up stories of success\, and not the long\, hard journey it takes to get there? Whether in our workplaces or in our personal lives\, we all experience struggles – and we know that it’s from these experiences that we can grow and learn the most. \nJoin us as leaders from Gener8tor\, Meat on the Street\, MobCraft Beer\, OnMilwaukee and more share stories of their biggest struggles\, and how those struggles ultimately led to success. \nFeatured Speakers: \n• Adrienne Palm\, Director of gBETA Musictech & gBETA Northeast Wisconsin at gener8tor \n• Alexa Alfaro\, Co-Founder of Meat on the Street \n• Michael Cerda\, Founder of Cerda Design Co \n• Wes Tank\, Freelance Filmmaker\, Performer\, Artist \n• Henry Schwartz\, Founder of MobCraft Beer \n• Molly Snyder\, Senior Writer/Editorial Manager at OnMilwaukee \n• Kiran “Q the Sun” Vedula\, Creator/Curator/Educator \n+++ \nThis event is part of YPWeek Milwaukee presented by Concordia University Wisconsin. \nYPWeek is a week long platform for discovery\, adventure and meaningful conversations about the issues that matter among young professionals.
