SUMMARY:California Dreamin': Mark Adams and Frank Lobdell at Racine Art Museum
DESCRIPTION:Mark Adams (1925-2006) and Frank Lobdell (1921-2013) explored pattern and color. Drawing on his experience building images with large planes of color\, Adams created realistic\, color-infused compositions of everyday subjects. Lobdell sought to explore humanity in broader terms––utilizing a “vocabulary of archetypal themes and abstract symbols.” Although primarily a painter\, Lobdell also produced lithographs\, etchings\, and monoprints. Both artists made their way to California where they spent the better part of their artistic careers. \nTuesday – Saturday 10:00 am – 5:00 pm\nSunday 12:00 – 5:00 pm\nClosed Monday\, Federal Holidays and Easter\nThe Museum Store closes at 4:45 pm each day. \n

SUMMARY:The Accidental Hero
DESCRIPTION:The Accidental Hero is a multi-media one-man show about a WWII American officer who miraculously liberates the Czech villages of his grandparents. It’s a true story\, written and performed by his grandson. \nPatrick Dewane’s grandfather refused to talk about his service in the war. Yet when he died his basement yielded a treasure trove of typewritten accounts\, photos and rare film footage. \nDewane brings this archival material to glowing life as an enthralling\, humorous and heartwarming tale of miraculous escapes and astonishing coincidences. This touching show runs from belly laughs to tears. Dewane takes on a dozen different roles as he powerfully recounts his grandfather’s journey from Omaha Beach\, the Battle of the Bulge\, and the end of WWII. In the last week of the war\, Konop’s story turns from another soldier’s tale to something from mythology as he discovers of his Czech roots. Like Luke Skywalker\, he thinks he’s just fighting the Evil Empire\, whereas the real story is about his once-obscured identity. But unlike Skywalker\, this story is true. \n
