SUMMARY:How to use the Wisconsin Historic Homeowners' Tax Credit Program
DESCRIPTION:Please join Milwaukee Preservation Alliance for our online webinar to learn how you may be able to help pay for your historic home rehabilitation. \nDid you know that owners of historic residences in Wisconsin may be eligible for income tax credits that can help pay for their home’s rehabilitation? The Wisconsin Homeowners’ Tax Credit program returns 25 percent of approved qualifying rehabilitation expenses (of eligible historic homes) as a Wisconsin income tax credit. \nJen Davel will explain how the program works\, how to qualify\, and the five categories of work eligible for the tax credit. She will describe what makes a project and property eligible for the program and will guide us step-by-step through the online application process. \nJen was recently appointed Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer at the Wisconsin Historical Society (WHS). WHS is the federally-designated State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) for the state of Wisconsin. The Preservation Office administers the Homeowners’ Tax Credit program. \nJen Davel holds a B.A. in Architecture from the University of Minnesota and a Master of Architecture with a certificate in Preservation Studies from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. After eleven years of work for architectural firms in Minnesota and Wisconsin\, she joined the State Historic Preservation Office as a preservation architect in 2010. In the last nine years\, she has been responsible for reviewing projects affecting historic buildings and structures in both the western half of the state and in the southern tier counties. \nWhy Should I Preserve My House \nHistoric Preservation is intrinsically important for its ability to enhance community pride and to create a sense of rootedness and belonging. Through a connection with history\, preservation can improve the quality of life and livability of communities. It also stimulates reinvestment and contributes to our economy\, creating jobs in construction\, architecture\, interior design\, engineering\, real estate\, accounting\, tourism and more. \n
