DESCRIPTION:Join Shelby Sinclair\, Assistant Professor of History and Africana Studies at the University of Virginia\, for a guest gallery talk about the historical and visual genealogies that shape Widline Cadet’s artwork. \nThis drop-in experience is included with Museum admission and is free for Members. Sinclair is Assistant Professor of History and Africana Studies at the University of Virginia’s Carter G. Woodson Institute. She specializes in the history of U.S. empire\, military occupation\, gender\, and resistance in the Caribbean and its diasporas. Her current book project explores Haitian women’s lives and labors during the 19-year U.S. military occupation of Haiti (1915-1934). Dr. Sinclair earned her PhD in History\, African American Studies\, and Gender and Sexuality Studies from Princeton University and BA with honors from Stanford University.
