DESCRIPTION:Join Kristen Gaylord\, Herzfeld Curator of Photography and Media Arts\, for a one-hour exploration of mining\, photography\, and the complex relationship between them along with other themes and topics in the exhibition Beneath the Surface: Mining and American Photography. \nThis drop-in experience is included with Museum admission and is free for Members. Admission tickets are available at the door or online. The Milwaukee Art Museum is grateful to its exhibition sponsors. \nMuseum admission:\nAdults: $27\, Kids 12 and under: Free\, Members: Free \nAbout the curator:\nKristen Gaylord is the Herzfeld Curator of Photography and Media Arts\, overseeing the Museum’s photography and new media collections. Since joining MAM in 2023\, she has organized Currents 40: Widline Cadet (2026) and Erin Shirreff: Permanent Drafts (2025)\, co-curated Beneath the Surface: Mining and American Photography (2026) for the National Gallery of Art\, and served as site curator for Arresting Beauty: Julia Margaret Cameron (2024) in Milwaukee. Previously\, Gaylord was associate curator of photographs at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art and held curatorial roles at the Museum of Modern Art\, where she contributed to over a dozen exhibitions and publications.
