SUMMARY:Creating Sketch Comedy During A Pandemic - Virtual Class

Looking for something safe and fun to do in the pandemic? Or after 2020\, are you just really in need of a laugh? Lucky for you\, the seasoned performers of Improv MKE are offering online classes so you can learn to crack people up in the comfort of your own home. In Creating Sketch Comedy During A Pandemic\, Milwaukee comedian Matthew Filipowicz will teach you how to create the style of comedy made famous by Saturday Night Live\, Monty Python\, Key and Peele\, and more using nothing more than your computer and cell phone.\nSketch comedy is traditionally composed and performed by a group of comedians together in the same room\, so how do you make sketch comedy when you can’t share physical space with other performers? In CREATING SKETCH COMEDY DURING A PANDEMIC\, students will learn different styles of sketches\, as well as techniques for creating premises and characters. No need for expensive equipment–students will write\, rehearse and create original video comedy sketches using nothing more than their computer and cell phone. \nPrerequisites\nStudents need access to a computer or cell phone with a camera\, and a stable internet connection\nStudents must commit to writing and working on their sketches outside of class\nStudents will leave the class with at least two complete original video sketches\nImprov MKE is a Black woman-owned improv theater founded by Milwaukee comedian Michelle Gilliam to create access\, both in-person and online\, for people to have fun\, learn\, grow\, and play together in ways they never thought possible.\nMatthew Filipowicz is a comedian\, cartoonist\, progressive talk radio host and the founder and host of Laughing Liberally Milwaukee. Matthew’s work has been featured on CNN\, NPR\, PBS\, HBO\, BBC\, Ain’t It Cool News\, the New York Times\, the Wall Street Journal\, the Atlantic\, the Nation\, the London Times\, and countless sites in the progressive blogosphere including Salon\, Daily Kos and the Huffington Post. \n
