DESCRIPTION:Join Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co. for an evening of live music celebrating Brief Candle’s new album! \nBrief Candles \nBrief Candles – an odd name for a longstanding band. Honestly though\, who would’ve guessed they’d actually still be playing together? Details are blurry\, it started in the prehistoric\, pre-internet\, pre-documenting-everything era. The thin days of shoegaze. When all the titans had gone away to have kids or get their degrees or whatever one does when they’ve gone out of fashion. Perhaps it could even be said that Brief Candles only got labeled as shoegaze back in those emo-laden times because they were the closest thing. Maybe because they showed up with pedal boards and delay on their vocals. It’s hard to say\, that was many effect pedals ago\, hundreds at least. One thing that can be said with certainty is that they’ve always sounded distinctly themselves. Yes\, they love shoegaze and post punk. They would never disavow such a thing. There are though\, tinges of kraut rock grooves\, crunchy 90s indie rock\, new wave and psych. All of those things a group of people love\, crammed together in various combinations to make music that could be called original\, or at least derivative in an honest way. Their new album\, “Unfinished Nature”\, continues that fine tradition – trying to find that special place the 4 of them exist in. \nLightninging \nLightninging comprises various members of Milwaukee’s experimental and jazz scenes and includes current and former members of Gauss\, Social Caterpillar\, Frenia\, The Naima\, and King of Salads. The group’s widely varying musical interests and exploratory outlook produce a densely layered and continually evolving sound\, in which strands of rock\, jazz\, electronic music\, experimental music\, and pop music refract each other to kaleidoscopic effect. Song structures follow a sort of warped dream logic: jagged polyrhythms give way to shoegaze-y walls of sound; a jazz-indebted dirge dissolves into a noise-laced sound collage. \nLightninging’s creative ethos is similarly layered\, variously involving meticulous composition\, loose improvisation\, and stream-of-consciousness musings\, invoking both the power of collective work and intention as well as the power of spontaneity and play; the joy of building a sonic and semantic world with your friends\, wrecking the foundation and sending its building blocks tumbling to the ground\, only to pick them back up again and start anew. \nHaunter \nHaunter is a progressive indie rock band from Milwaukee that makes dreary pop songs featuring interesting rhythms and poignant lyrics. \nTickets are $15 in advance or $17 day of show. \n
