DESCRIPTION:Ruth Carter is the costume designer for over 60 film and TV projects over 30 years. She has been recognized with Oscar nominations for Malcolm X in 1992 (directed Spike Lee) and for Amistad in 1997 (directed by Steven Spielberg). In her career\, Ms. Carter has collaborated on 14 films with Spike Lee. Most recently\, Ms. Carter designed the costumes for Black Panther\, the Marvel Cinematic Universe film directed by Ryan Coogler in 2018. \nRuth Carter will speak about the inspiration for her costume designs\, her thoughts about designing costumes for female characters\, as well as her experiences as an African American woman in the film industry. \n
