Youth Council recommendations for CDGB funds approved

The Community and Economic Development Committee today signed off on the Milwaukee Youth Council’s recommended funding allocations totaling $73,960 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) reprogramming funds for youth-oriented programming.

The Community and Economic Development Committee today signed off on the Milwaukee Youth Council’s recommended funding allocations totaling $73,960 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) reprogramming funds for youth-oriented programming.

The Youth Council met last week with six agencies requesting funding for various programs and projects that benefit Milwaukee’s youth. Following the proposals from the agencies, the Youth Council made their recommendations to the Community and Economic Development Committee for approval at today’s meeting. The MYC’s five selected agency proposals were recommended for approval unanimously by the
committee, and will go before the full Common Council when it meets at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21 at City Hall.

The following agencies received funds for their programs:

  • Boys & Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee – Received $11,000 for the Youth Works MKE project to benefit high-risk teens ages 13-17.
  • Center for Self-Sufficiency – Received $22,510 for its teen pregnancy prevention & financial literacy program for 150 high school youth.
  • COA Youth & Family Centers – Received $10,450 for its Youth Leadership training and crime prevention project.
  • Neu Life Community Development – Received $20,000 for its Too Good for Drugs and Violence evidence-based prevention education program.
  • Social Development Commission – Received $10,000 for its Youth Employment Program to help place 10 youths in a job, internship or apprenticeship program.
