Hales Corners, WI (June 20, 2016) —Chris Sommerfelt’s watercolor landscapes will be on view in the Garden House of the Boerner Botanical Gardens from June 25-July 17. The Botanical Gardens, Milwaukee County’s Living Museum, is located at 9400 Boerner Drive, in Whitnall Park.

Inspired by nature, Sommerfelt was drawn to watercolor by its transparency and its assertion of its own voice, in cooperation with her intent.

A member of the League of Milwaukee Artists, Wisconsin Watercolor Society, and the Wauwatosa Artists Workshop, she began working in watercolor in the early 1980s. Her work has been exhibited in solo and juried shows. She has received awards including the statewide 2014 Alive in the Arts exhibit at the Plymouth Art Center. Her work was also accepted in the prestigious 2014 and 2015 Watercolor Wisconsin exhibit of the Wustum Museum in Racine. Her work is held in both private and corporate collections.

Sommerfelt’s work will be on display in the Garden House from 8 a.m.–6 p.m., seven days a week. In addition, the public is invited to meet the artist during a reception, July 14, from 5:30-8:30 p.m.—before and during the free Thursday night concert (6:30-8:30 p.m.).

The Botanical Gardens are open daily until dusk.

Admission to the Botanical Gardens, which includes admission to the Garden House, is $5.50 for adults age 18 and up; $4.50 for students of any age with IDs, Milwaukee County seniors age 60 and up with IDs, and people with disabilities; and $3.50 for youths age 6-17. Free admission is offered to Milwaukee County residents with ID and proof of residency on “First Tuesdays,” the first Tuesday of the month through September.
