Volunteers to plant flower bulbs near Mitchell Interchange

A visual news opportunity happens tomorrow (Saturday, November 3) when community volunteers join together to plant hundreds of daffodil bulbs along the sides of the new Mitchell Interchange freeway in the middle of the city’s “Garden District,” according to Alderman Terry L. Witkowski.
Alderman Witkowski, whose 13th Aldermanic District is known as “The Garden District” for its plentiful residential, business and community gardens, said state Department of Transportation representatives have been working with area neighborhood associations to highlight the completion of the Mitchell Interchange work. “What better way to mark the close of the interchange project than having community volunteers (many from the neighborhood associations) plant flower bulbs that will add beauty and color to the sides of the freeway in the spring,” Alderman Witkowski said.
Volunteers and DOT representatives will gather at 8 a.m. Saturday on the east side of S. 20th St. at I-894 (near Lowell Elementary School) to coordinate the bulb planting. Volunteers will be provided with safety vests, but should bring their own bulb planters and/or shovels.
