UWM conference reaches out to military, veteran populations

The conference’s goals include discussing the seen and unseen injuries that affect military and veteran populations and their families.

MILWAUKEE ­_ The UW-Milwaukee School of Continuing Education will host the Military & Veteran Populations Conference, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., May 19-20, at 161 W. Wisconsin Ave., Suite 7000.

The conference’s goals include discussing the seen and unseen injuries that affect military and veteran populations and their families; sharing in-depth knowledge on alternative treatments to combat trauma; and networking to build partnerships and collaborations with others in the field.

Speakers will address issues related to veterans and the military. Michael Orban, author of “Souled Out, A Memoir of War and Inner Peace,” will speak at 9:15 a.m. on May 19.  John Zemler, a U.S. Army veteran, will speak at 9:15 a.m. on May 20. Andrew Jones, a U.S. Marines combat veteran in Operation Iraqi Freedom and author of “Healing the Warrior Heart,” will speak at noon on May 20.
