More background on Colin
Widely recognized as the greatest Irish step dancer ever, Colin Dunne will be in Milwaukee to set new work on the Trinity Irish Dance Company. Best known for his performances and choreography in “Riverdance,” Dunne has been on an artistic journey since completing a Masters in Contemporary Dance Performance at the University of Limerick in 2002. His first full-length solo show, “Out of Time,” has toured internationally, and was nominated for a Laurence Oliver Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance. The New York Times called it “an unprecedented achievement: an Irish dance performance of emotional and intellectual complexity, about many things.”
Dunne’s personal shift away from the commercial world intrigued Trinity’s Founding Artistic Director, Mark Howard and prompted him to eventually invite Dunne to Milwaukee as an artist-in-residence.
Since its inception in 1990, the Trinity Irish Dance Company has been met with great critical acclaim. Their work has been celebrated in distinguished performing arts venues such as Washington’s Kennedy Center, New York’s Joyce Theater and Tokyo’s Orchard Hall, to name a few. Trinity’s Founder, Mark Howard is an Emmy Award-winning choreographer who has devoted his professional life to striving for and achieving that which is difficult to attain: the transcendence of craft to art and the synthesis of forms to create something that is forward-looking and new.
