The GOP Blame Game Continues

MADISON – In an attempt to save face after announcing that he would be deferring $101 million in debt payments earlier this week, Governor Walker stated “The bottom line is we have concerns about the Obama economy nationally and we want to make sure Wisconsin is prepared for it.”

Rep. Chris Taylor (D-Madison), ranking Assembly Democrat on the Joint Finance Committee issued the following response:

“After passing three budgets, possessing strong Republican majorities in both houses, and having the last six years to enact his legislative agenda, it still amazes me that Governor Walker has the audacity to point the finger at everyone else for the GOP’s failed economic policies.  The facts simply don’t lie – nearly $5 billion in hefty tax breaks with a good chunk going to wealthy families and those who don’t need it is why we are in this hole.

“Governor Walker’s current state budget spends nearly $2 billion more than his last budget and, yet, the fact we can’t pay our bills is President Obama’s fault?  Wisconsin has dropped to 40th in the nation in private sector growth over the past four years – will they blame this on President Obama?  How about the statistic that Wisconsin’s job growth rate over the last year was 1.2%, compared to 2.2% nationally – is this somehow President Obama’s fault too?

“Budgets have consequences.  We have spent more than we have, we lost over 10,000 jobs last year, we are not paying our bills, we are gaining more debt and we are giving billions in tax breaks to those who don’t need it while the rest of Wisconsin suffers.  Don’t let them fool you – these are the real consequences of Republican budgeting.”
