Support for Planned Parenthood Demonstrated During #PinkOut Day

Wisconsin Loves Planned Parenthood for 80 Years

MADISON – In response to a torrent of unwarranted, politically motivated attacks directed toward Planned Parenthood and the care it provides, PPWI patients and supporters have responded throughout the past months with an outpouring of support for Planned Parenthood. Today, the support for Planned Parenthood in Wisconsin and across the country will culminate in a national ‘Pink Out’ day to send a clear message to those working to block essential health care access that women and men in America and Wisconsin stand with Planned Parenthood.

“Today is meant to highlight the support we have throughout the state and nation,” said Tanya Atkinson, executive director of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin. “We have been overwhelmed with support from individuals who know and value Planned Parenthood. Today we are reflecting Wisconsin’s love for Planned Parenthood at our health centers and members of the community will demonstrate their support for Planned at local events, on social media and through grassroots actions to protect women’s access to essential health care.”

Each year Planned Parenthood serves more than 60,000 individuals in Wisconsin with breast and cervical cancer screenings, annual wellness exams, birth control, STD testing and treatment, honest sex education, abortion and referrals for mammograms, cancer treatment and adoption. One in five women has trusted Planned Parenthood for her health care in her lifetime. After 80 years of service in Wisconsin, that level of trust and appreciation by our patients and their families is palpable. Hundreds of individuals have sent their thanks and shared their stories about the importance of PPWI in their lives. An increase in donations to PPWI has enabled a paid media campaign throughout Wisconsin to highlight the impact Planned Parenthood has had in the community.

“80 years of service to the community cannot be undone by the latest political attacks,” Atkinson continued. “Planned Parenthood will continue to be there for our patients – no matter what. As we celebrate our 80th anniversary, we will work to ensure there is no doubt about what we do, who we serve and our ongoing commitment to our patients, to keep them safe, healthy and strong.”

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin is the advocacy arm of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin. PPAWI engages in legislative and educational activity and works to elect candidates to office that support these goals.

  1. AG says:

Since roughly 1 out of every 8 people using planned parenthood’s “services” receive an abortion, should we consider 1/8th of the pink worn to represent the life taken from an unborn child? Or do we just count 1 out of every 8 people wearing pink?

  2. Barb -West Bend says:

When “right to life” advocates picket and protest at military recruiting stations and military bases because bombs, rockets and drones cause millions of men, women ( some of whom are pregnant) and children to be blown to bits or incinerated (collateral damage) then, and only then, will I take seriously their high regard for the unborn.

  3. Paul says:

Barb, you are comparing apples to oranges, the killing of our enemies has protected this country, the killing of unborn children has help destroy our morals

  4. Tim says:

Paul, what about Iraq & the WMD that never turned up? Why did so many Americans have to die in that war? Also, why aren’t the so called ‘pro-life’ people out there protesting about it?

    Barb is spot on.

  5. AG says:

Tim, what makes US lives so much more valuable? A life is a life. Saddam Hussein is responsible for the deaths of an estimated 250,000 to 500,000 people, not including the roughly 300,000 from the Iran-Iraq war. The 4000some US deaths during the Iraq war were tragic… but what makes them truly any more special? Our troops risk their lives to protect our country, our way of life, and in this case it was to try to bring an evil power out of a turbulent region.

Mind you, I disagreed with the idea of getting into that war and it was clearly the wrong decision b/c of the destabilizing effect that pulling out has had… but that’s a far cry from lining people up and executing them or beheading them on live internet feeds. That would be on the level of killing innocent children in the womb.

None of you really think that abortion and the Iraq war are the same thing. Most supporters of abortion rights don’t see an unborn child as a living being. You’re only trying to use debate tactics to win an argument… when to pro-life supporters this isn’t a debate, it’s murder.
