On Wednesday, Dr. Michael Lovell, President of Marquette University, announced that Marquette University is launching a “Near West Side Grocery Store Challenge.”
MILWAUKEE – The following statement was issued following the announcement of the Marquette University Near West Side Grocery Store Challenge.
On Wednesday, Dr. Michael Lovell, President of Marquette University, announced that Marquette University is launching a “Near West Side Grocery Store Challenge.” He invites all students to participate and be part of the solution in providing affordable access to fresh food options in their community.
This is in response to address the need for a grocery store in the Near West Side – one of the top priorities of our organization, our residents and of the five anchor institutions (Aurora Health Care, Harley-Davidson, Marquette University, MillerCoors and Potawatomi Business Development Corporation) that helped form Near West Side Partners in October 2014.
We’re thrilled to see the leadership of Marquette University and its students in moving this forward.
As always, we will work closely with our residents, other business owners and elected officials to determine the winning student or student group and identify an appropriate site in support of positive economic development in the Near West Side.
